Closing these centres will have a major impact on the users and the families ... consistency, familiar people & surroundings are so important for the horrible illness ... chance can be very frightening & can have a very negative impact ... this in turn could end up costing more money than they are saving

These day centres should be retained and promoted. The council says they are 'underused'. Only because they don't tell people about the excellent facility. Closing these is a step backwards.

My mum had the same illness and I know how important these homes are. I was lucky to get a place for her sadly she passed away in 2007.

You might want to look at the experience of friends from Wellingborough who, faced with a similar challenge when Wellingborough Council were planning to close Glamis Hall, banded together and pulled together a bid to take over the centre which they then did. They took over on 5th Jan 2015 and in less than 12 months turned a recurrent operating lose of £170,000 a year into profit in year 1. Many of the people that us Glamis Hall experience dementia and the families are delighted that it's been saved. Perhaps you could do this too. I am sure they were be happy to talk to you.

These services are vital. Surely with all the research and knowledge we now have in relation to dementia as a society we should be adding to these services not taking them away. What's happened to care in the community or that something we have all forgotten about?

Please do not cut this valuable resource, as a family we have seen so much improvement in our relatives sense of self and ability to cope. Without this resource ourselves and many others could not cope.
