Our beloved Dive, formally known as the Riverside Inn, is threatened by redevelopment. Tonight, January 10th 2018, the Cranford Planning Board is viewing a presentation by Harbor Consultants, Inc. and discussing their Draft Preliminary Investigation Report for North Avenue East.
In short, the report concludes that the block from Bar Americana to the Riverside is a “Condemnation Area in Need of Redevelopment” which could be reclaimed by the town, destroyed and replaced by an apartment complex. We haven't reached that point yet, but the discussions are beginning and could head in the wrong direction if we don't act now.
From many peoples' first drink to their last, and every one in between, The Dive, has hosted many great nights and memories. Jake has kept the spirit alive for over 20 years and drinking aside, The Dive has been a foundation of the Cranford community. Open for decades, many relationships have been formed and rekindled whether it was a random Friday night or the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
Almost destroyed by Hurricane Irene in 2011, the community and friends banded together, persevered and brought the bar a new life. Let's unite together again and save The Dive! Voted one of the best bars in NJ, according to NJ.com, "A dive bar with charm", it's not just a dive, it's The Dive.

I've been going to the Dive for longer than I should have been. It holds a special place in my heart and would be a huge loss for Cranford. As a local business owner, the idea of the town taking over my property doesn't sit well. Save the dive!
I’m all for economic development and the revitalization of certain properties in town. What about the Centennial Village gateway? The old Amoco station that has been abandoned for 20 years ?
Save the Riverside! Harbor consultants seems to be bound and determined to ruin Cranford and take away the town we love in a dumpster
The Dive is an integral part of the fabric Cranford. It is not just any other piece of property. The Dive is a real draw for the town as it showcases the great sense of community and the fun spirit of Cranford. It adds great value to the community and should not be cast aside.
Landmarks should not be torn down.

First stop every time I visit home. The Dive is a culturally significant Cranford institution, much more than a local bar. Please do the right thing and do not move towards closing The Dive.
I've been going to the Dive for longer than I should have been. It holds a special place in my heart and would be a huge loss for Cranford. As a local business owner, the idea of the town taking over my property doesn't sit well. Save the dive!
