Save The Confederate Monuments

Those who want to remove Civil War history but want ME TO RECOGNIZE THEIR HISTORY are fanning the flames. I will never compromise when they are looting our cities, tearing down our monuments and wanting us to honor their ancestory without honoring the Civil War heroes are rediculous. They are simply making many of us much more determined to figure this all the way. They are trying to say it’s all about the black people and those of us whose ancestors founded this country and fought for it had nothing to do with it. The monuments should be left alone — how would the BLM people like it if all their MLK and other black heroes statues were defaced & destroyed? It’s just going to go downhill if all this nonsense continues

In August I will be 16. My generation will be the ones that do not value or understand the importance of history. In school we are told to view history a certain way( and the teachers are only allowed to teach it one way) . On social media we barely have any kind of history pop up on our newsfeed. Sadly I only know a handful of people my age that still enjoy learning or reading about history. Granted not all of American History was pleasant. Over the past centuries, the country has been through many ups and downs. However, with this being said I don't believe that we should try to " Erase" any of it. All of the statues and monuments in America, not just for the Civil War, has been put up for a reason. If we tear it down, we are not doing anything but hurting our own country. I was raised to view every aspect of a story before I choose my side, and this is the conclusion I have came to. I do value everyone's opinion, just as much as I value the history of the county.

This is OUR AMERICAN HISTORY and what made the United States of America what it is today. The media has ruin this country in so many ways. I respect and honor all of those who served and died for our country, my ancestors, and everyone who made this country what it is. Know your history, know the cause that you are supporting, and most importantly have your own mind! This is not a race issue, but guess what because people want to be puppets we will problemly be repeating history soon. Sad to say, No one can erase history, it is meant to learn from it! Either you are part of the problem, or part of the solution. In 150 years if people are still holding onto things and not bettering themselves who is the ones that really have the problem? There are good and bad in all races. Irish, Jews, Italians, ect. came to this country with nothing and look at them. Let's not forget that Native Americans, and Whites were also salves. Politicians that want to tear down our history, why don't you just go to England and stay under British rule? Or do you pick and choose what history works best for you?

It is a sad day in the history of this Great Country to try and destroy and remove all historical monuments. You shouldn't try to use 2020 thinking to measure 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th century events. To do so would label Lincoln, Grant and Sherman as war criminals for waging their burn, pillage, rape and destruction tactics across civilians and cities in the South during the American Civil War. All is history and these monuments measure a chapter in this Great Country and our evolution...

The removal of our Confederate Monuments is Censorship. The Civil War was about industry, commerce and money. Do your homework and read legitimate information about the Civil War and you will clearly see this was the basis for the war. I am furious about the removal of our monuments. I suggest that people should educate themselves concerning Southern History. The first slaves in the United States were Native American Slaves, Some tribes had slaves among themselves. The second wave of slavery was indentured slaves from Europe.Many of them never were able to pay their debt to freedom. Slaves were brought here from Africa for manual labor . Next Chinese slaves were numerous and were used to build the railroads in the United Slaves. Are we going to rip up all the railroads because of slave labor? If anyone thinks that slavery has ended, then they are living in ignorance . Sex slavery is a huge business and is global Children are working in sweat shops. Human Trafficking is a universal problem. If anyone whats to battle about slavery, I suggest they look at modern day slavery and stand up for what can make a difference today. We cannot change the past and we cannot change history. Southern people are being stripped of everything that they love and know. The confederate flag is not a symbol of hate . It is a flag that represents a geographical area that we refer to as Dixie Land. It is a place that I love and I will say, if you you have not lived the southern life then you have no business judging the south. The Hollywood south that you have seen on Television is not the real south. My final say is return our statues. If you refuse to return them , STOP the CENSORSHIP and place them in a facility so that they can be viewed by the people who respect and honor them. You call them hate symbol and destroy them just like nazis did with book burning? You have no right to decide what our monuments means for other people, learn from history do not destroy it save our monuments

Save these great American statues! They’re not a form of hate! While I agree with the North that slavery was and always will be bad, and agree with what the North did to stop it, you also have to acknowledge that the South had no choice but to attack the North, or else their children would be hungry and bare. Anyone would have done what the South did if they had to choose. You can’t call the Confederacy (South) a traitor to the Union (North,) or as many people say they attacked Americans, the Southerners are Americans too! You see, the North was driving the South into a near economic collapse, they had to attack, they’re not traitors nor none-Americans. Again, I am not trying to defend slavery, it’s bad. I agree with the North, they had to attack and eradicate slavery, as it was the only way to get rid of it. But PLEASE don’t blame the South as both sides are responsible for slavery, both sides were forced to attack (yes, they had to, believe me, no American wanted to kill another American) and both are responsible for the Civil War. You can call the South white supremacists if you’d like, but you also have to acknowledge that the North was racist too, even Abe Lincoln said he didn’t want to take away the slaves at the beginning, the whole America (around 90%) was racist in 1860s. And we also have to acknowledge that we live in a free country, nobody has the right to ban any flags (like it is being done with the Confederate flag) nobody had the right to take down statues, think that they’re evil even though they’re not, the South wasn’t fighting just because they wanted to keep the slaves, they were fighting to preserve their economy and put food on the table, slaves were vital to the economy of the South, had anybody offered another way to preserve the economy, the South would have agreed. Should we tear down every statue, uproot all cemeteries where Civil War soldiers are buried, and demolish all buildings named for someone that even one person is offended by? Everyone read Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four.

History is history- you can't change what has happened. I can't believe how absurd all this is.

Regardless of how you feel about them, they are a part of our heritage! It's not Ok to destroy artwork!

Not only are these statues historical, they are never to be property of a mob. These figures transcend such low lives, pointing to something greater, and the animals who hate them could never hold a candle to them.

Those who ignore or forget history are doomed to repeat it!

My family fought for the south. There were more reasons, not just slavery that they fought for. Leave our history.

These statues need to be preserved. This is HISTORY, and not anything else!!!

When we went to school history books taught us all about the civil war along with many other wars. Can you say that history books are "racist " are do you . You should not just pick and choose one war because all wars have two sides. Look at the vietnam war a lot of our "HEROS" were cursed at and spit on ,i have the utmost respect for all of them.So leave history the way it is. "YOU CANNOT CHANGE ANY OF IT" .
