This tower should not be demolished.
It is an iconic landmark for all of us that have been a user or passerby of the old Mount Pleasant Primary School and Community Hall for decades.
The tower should be kept for sheer historical importance to the area, the school and its surrounding residents in Crosland Moor, Thornton Lodge and Newsome who recognise it as part of their history and our history in Huddersfield.
I am a resident on the border of Lockwood and Crosland Moor and had children attend the old school for many years and used the community services in the adjacent hall
I always used to admire the tower with its unusual gargoyles, who appeared to have a protective watch over the children below in the playgrounds.
It is an historical part of the original school and therefore I feel it is a duty that it should be kept.

This decision by the Council is perverse and obscene. What is there to be gained by depriving the Community of a much loved feature of the landscape that people enjoy looking at and that brings pleasure??. Who is asking for its demolition except for the Council...no one...so why go against everyone's wishes. I have been involved in trying to help save this iconic building for a long time. I find it hard to believe the Council would be so daft as to knock it down for no reason...one Councillor replied to me it's standing there serving no purpose...how ridiculous ...sounds like it's more like him standing there serving no purpose! It could be sold to so someone else takes on the liability...the same daft councillor said no one would want to buy it to save it...I (seriously ) said I would and I didn't have the decency of a reply to that.The Huddersfield MP didn't have the decency to reply to my email either...perhaps he knows the argument for demolition is so feeble.
It could be a feature everyone at the new school can be proud of ..while it stands it's not to late for the Council to see sense....There were literally hundreds of people who signed to save it and between us we could cover any scaffolding removal costs with fundraising ...people will find it hard to forgive or forget a Council who digs it's heels in and through stupidity and subbornness destroys this thing of beauty for the area!! Thank You

What about protecting and preserving the local amenity? Use isn’t just about its commercial or practical purpose, it is also about its aesthetic value and architectural amenity. In an increasingly bland architectural environment where one neighbourhood melds seamlessly into another, we and the council that supposedly serves us should relish beautiful anomalies such as Lockwood clock tower. Heritage is fundamentally important and the destruction of this landmark is an offence against the principles of neighbourhood and pride of belonging.

The men and women who built this tower in 1875 gave their sweat , blood and passion for the future generations.
Just by looking at the picture you can see the tremendous amount of devotion which was put in What just to knock it down This is a landmark which gives lockwood warmth. The council will never undrstand this as it has not touched their hearts.
