As a current or former resident of Oswego, I urge that the Mayor of the City of Oswego, along with all members of the Common Council make every effort to save, preserve and re-utilize the former Coleman/Cahill Fish Market building. This building is the oldest commercial building in Oswego and represents a significant part of Oswego's history as a port city. To lose it to neglect or political maneuvering would be intolerable to all who call or have called Oswego home.

The local history in these walls is worth the fight. I am currently reaching out to preservation experts to map our next steps.

The momentum for the Cahill building is undeniable now. It is clear that our town refuses to let this history vanish.

Urban renewal, return to City tax roll, entrepreneurial business ideas, and Historic Preservation can all co-exist here.

Cahill's is not just a building. It is Oswego and Oswego's history. It was part of growing up in Oswego. It was someone's lively-hood. It was Friday night fish dinners. It was where neighbors talked at the end of a long week of work. Cahill's is part of Oswego's culture and a emotional bond to a very unique city. Please save this building.

There is no doubt in my mind that if cool heads prevail, the community will not let such an important part of our local history be lost. The old Cornerstone Building was also in a sad condition, when we purchased, and restored it.. And now it's a beautiful riverfront icon, called "Bridie Manor."

I am still a property owner in Oswego. The Cahill building is the most picturesque structure in downtown Oswego, looking a bit like the centuries old buildings in Old Montreal near their harbor.

This keystone building is on the lakefront corridor. It should be an anchor of the revitalization of the northern end of West First/Lake Street/Wright's Landing. It would be a real shame if the good, capable City of Oswego governing body is unable to come up with a workable plan to save this building.

So many buildings in Oswego have been torn down, I'd hate to see the Cagill building end with the same fate. My first real part time job was working there when I was in high school!
