Save the Braves

I’m a direct descendent of the Yuki Indian princess Referring to Indians as BRAVE. And taking away that perspective of our youth seems the opposite of a racial indifference I’m completely 100% Happy these Elementary school kids have such passion to keep their mascot their “good luck charm” as my people and see no reason this is racist at all. It’s racist to think of it that way this is children were talking about, thank you

Changing the mascot name of “Braves” is going way to far. Perhaps a better agenda is to boycott purchasing Ford automobiles as Henry Ford was an Anti-semite and supported Adolph Hitler. Rewriting our history by removing names, monuments, etc.....is traveling down a slippery slope. (Former “Brooker Braves” teacher)

I have lived in Brandon since 1962. My siblings and my children and grandchildren have attended Brooker Elementary. PLEASE keep Brooker’s mascot the Braves. It is Brandon history and the expense to changing everything (for just a few objections) would be a terrible waste of money. I voted for the additional tax recently for funding schools and trusted the school board to use it wisely. Please use it for something that benefits schools. Do not waste it on changing the Braves!! THANK YOU.

All of my 3 sons where 'Braves' and now their kids are Braves! Save the Braves. Even our grand-daughters thinks is 'stupid' to change "their" mascot. Com'on adult leaders be responsible and not political!!

Please keep the mascot for the Brooker Braves. They take pride in their mascot and it is a tradition that should not be changed. It helps to rally for causes and it teaches school spirit.

Our daughters Erin and Kendra were Proud Brooker Braves !! I thought art for over 25 years there. Never once was the Brave anything but a respected , moral symbol of high achievement!!!!!

Instead of changing the names of the Braves, Chiefs, Warriors, etc, teach the children the true meaning of the words and the symbols. All were strong "Brave" and earned their way to being a Chief. We show True Strength, Courage in the face of danger and fear! We, the graduates and alumni of all these schools are proud to be who we are ,

I am a product of a Chicago High School that is currently fighting their Superintendent over our our mascot -Lane Tech Indians. I fully agree with the statements in this petition and gladly sign this in support of these Students.

Why do we record history and make it mandatory to take in public education if now (w/o input from community) we are going to act like the American Indians and the Civil War ceased to exist? Who came up w/this brain-dead idea?

I taught at Ruskin Elementary & Forest Hills Elementary schools. At both schools we were taught to respect and honor the heritage that the Braves mascot invokes.

This my old elementary school can’t let that happen.

Leave the mascots alone.

I attended Brooker and am proud to be a Brave. The name should not be changed as it is honoring the Native Americans.

I was a former student at this school and it needs to keep its name.

Broker Braves is a staple of Brooker the school is 50 plus years old and the mascot is perfect it should stay!

Chosing a name as a mascot is an HONOR, not a degradation. Political correctness run amok!!!

My three children were proud Brooker Braves, and I was a proud Brooker Brave faculty member for many years!

Keep that name!!!!!!!
