Its becoming ridiculous the amount of houses that have already been built in standish. A once farming community with open green lands has more or less gone.
My uncle came over from australia and he couldnt believe how standish had changed and said it was becoming to built up
There is hardly anywhere now where you can go for walks or picnics with your children, when we where kids we had the convent, ashfield the line and other areas where we spent time walking and exploring this has all more or less gone now.
The gov is demanding these be built, but they don't have to live here and put up with all the congestion

I have lived in Standish for all of my 52 years and have seen the over development of this once lovely village. The next developments are the last straw and we are seriously considering moving away. Enough is more than enough.

I have lived in Standish for over 50 years and seen a lot of changes. Recently moving onto Almond Brook Rd. I am now stuck in traffic every day and look with dismay as the green peaceful places I used to ride horses and take the dogs, have gradually been turned over to more and more bricks and mortar. Losing our original identity and becoming a commuter suburb, I have to wonder what is happening to a once friendly green and pleasant village?

There is no justification for any more houses to be built in Standish village/ Town as there are enough unsold properties available at present. Standish is a famous bottle neck on the road system and will not cope with a further development of overpriced dwellings . New builds are squashed together, small windowed dwelling small gardens , which in time will become similar to the slums of old. Another case of faceless money making exploiting the construction industry for there own gain. I suggest that the homes will not be affordable for the local population of Standish, ie First time buyers, young families, of course the builders will provide a small amount of lower priced property but will not care about this because they will make so much money making Standish overcrowded.

Standish is built up enough there is already nowhere to park and it is a nightmare to drive through the main street at rush hour so more houses would mean more cars means more pollution and congestion on the already overcrowded roads

The traffic in Standish is a nightmare already, the area is such a nice place to live with its fields and places to walk more houses and roads will ruin what makes Standish such an appealing place to live

we live down by the bleachworks and the ones they built are a eyesore we dont want any more houses been built the roads wont take any more traffic also they are spoiling the green fields we will end up with no country side left

I'm astounded that Wigan council are proposing to build so many more houses in what is a currently a cramped area with poor infrastructure, limited school places and not enough services.
Leave Standish alone!

I do recognise the need for more houses, but prefer the idea suggested by WN6 Creative Design. Brown field sites should definitely be used before green field sites..
