Can't believe they are building more houses with no real plans to improve the infrastructure. People will start leaving the area which will lead to an array of empty properties. It will drive down the housing prices and just add to the congestion issues we already have in the village. I have lived here all my life and this is making me consider moving out the area.

cannot believe the council have backed down to these developers and governments inspector.Standish cannot cope with this volume of additional houses, it does not have the infrastructure to cope why cannot these councillors see this OR can they.

I live in Pemberton and we've found out that a proposed M58 link road planning application is being submitted in May/June this year!
The situation is nearly identical to yours and we feel the same. So we say NO to more roads and KEEP OUR OPEN SPACES!!

Why always MORE housing in Standish. What about extra schools, dentist, doctors better road layout/bypasses etc to cope with all the houses they want to build. Also Standish has no decent leisure or retail facilities or parks just clogged up roads and a council trying to squeeze as much revenue out of a village which is being destroyed.

Why always MORE housing in Standish. What about extra schools, dentist, doctors better road layout/bypasses etc to cope with all the houses they want to build. Also Standish has no decent leisure or retail facilities or parks just clogged up roads and a council trying to squeeze as much revenue out of a village which is being destroyed.

I have lived in Standish all my life and have noticed how Standish has gradually, become over developed. Is it not about time Wigan Council, preserved areas of beauty, and stopped developers building houses or flats on this land?

Here's something to think about: Standish's greenery has been here since the planet formed a few billion years ago. You are going to destroy that landscape for houses that the village does not need and does not want. Once you decimate the green spaces, they're gone for good...there's no going back. Stop making permanent and destructive solutions to temporary housing issues. Build on Standish's brownfield land. Build in towns that want the developments. Renovate empty houses. Stop taking away places for residents to enjoy nature without needing to get in a car and drive. England is meant to be a green land and yet my children will be deprived of a single place to safely walk to and play. Enough is enough. Stop thinking of money and start thinking how much distress you are causing to the residents who will be stuck here in a concrete jungle that they didn't sign up for.

Whilst I understand the need to build new houses, Wigan Council were far too quick to approve the building of 1000 houses in Standish. 600 of them are to be squashed into the Pepper lane area alone, going against the Council's own Infrastructure Assessment which recommended that perhaps up to 500 could be built in this area. I was at the meeting where permission to build was granted in June and there was no proper discussion about how new housing could be spread out over other areas. None of the councillors making the decision were connected with Standish and clearly wanted to push through the target of 1000 houses as quickly as possible, not caring that they were to be dumped in one area. The Pepper Lane/ Almond Brook area is particularly going to suffer - Shameful!
