Save St Lawrence's Pews

Three years ago my wife and I collected 800 signatures in the village opposing the removal of the pews. We suggested that the first three rows could be made removable to facilitate concerts. The proposed church extension will be suitable for most social events and for larger events the Memorial Hall is close to the church. There is no Christian justification for the expense of ripping out the pews, installing underfloor heating and re-equipping the church with chairs. This money should be spent on more deserving causes.

I believe taking away the church pews is taking a part of the churches history

I have never visited this church and am not particularly 'religious' but this idea is just awful and to carry it out would be a real loss :(

Hoped PCC had learnt from the church hall fiasco - this vandalises what makes St. Lawrence so special & only spends money the PCC hasn't got - pls don't do it!!

I suspect that the Committee have opted for this because of deteriorating funding and attendance at the church. If all of the people who signed this petition dontated to the church then I expect that the removal of the pews would not be necessry

Why fix something that is not broken? Perfectly serviceable pews that have history should remain part of this beautiful churh.

I was married heren and christened here, my father is buried here, this would be sacralidge to remove these pwes, i think its absolutely discusting thing to do, if you need more room use the parish rooms thats what they are for. Barry Merridan

The church is a historical building outside please dont destroy the internal character and heart and soul of the building with plastic.. part of its charm is the history both inside and out.

You cannot have a traditional english church without pews,
