So I have to say this boils my blood. I get the fact that poor attendance has forced closure. However this church was paid for by the people, for the people. Now all the donations and money spent here will be a profit for the Catholic diocese. Adaptable for residential or commercial use. Really? I would be absolutely ashamed to have this as my listing as a real estate agent. Do they not get the fact that all the plots of cherished loved ones surrounds the building that were PAID for by the people who decided to lay them to rest here? This has to be some kind of sick twisted joke in a reality that can only be a dream. Why could they not donate the building to town use? Why do they have to profit from it? I know one thing is for sure. Nothing will be stopping me from visiting my family's plots to pay respect. If you have to watch me through your bedroom window kneel before my fathers headstone you should be appalled that you purchased this building for anything other than the use of the community. Absolutely sickened, shocked and disgusted. I ask that anyone concerned write on the Spaniards Bay Group, call the town to make a complaint (709) 786-3568 and/or email . At many points in your life you have to ask yourself when something is morally and ethically wrong. This is one of them folks. It is not the sale of the building that concerns me. It is the fact merely inches away are headstones and burial grounds for many loved ones who are put to rest here. Help me fight this so my family can visit loved ones in peace. Help me help other families who have no voice stand up and fight so they can visit their loved ones in peace.

Seeing this kind of traction is heavy but it proves that I am not alone in this fight. This road is exhausting and the opposition is stubborn yet we are still moving forward.

This is disgusting! Both my grandparents and my brother are buried here and I make it point to get out to pay my respects to them whenever I am home from the mainland. Do what is right please
Sad to see this church closed. It was built mostly by the hard work of the parishioners of Spaniards Bay and Tilton. They should have a greater voice in the decision of what to do with this building than they are currently getting. If the building is to be sold, removing it from the cemetery has to be a condition of sale.
Turn it into a community rec center and fence off the graveyard. This can be an indoor sports complex. Basketball ball hockey. Fake ice rink etc. be stewards of the land and save the building. I wish I could buy the building and lease the land for $1 a year to save the area
This is sickening, my family is buried there and under no circumstances will anyone or anything stop me from entering that graveyard to visit my loved ones. Donate it to the town so it can be used for the people, by the people of the community and their departed loved ones are left to rest in peace.
Listing this church for sale is wrong, as there is a sacred burial ground in very close proximity to the building. Not only that, but heaven only knows what damage may be caused to the headstones/gravesites should this property end up in the hands of a person or business that has no regard for the sanctity of the burial ground.
I wish they had to try and save the catherial in harbour grace it was awful and to spend all that money in that one in Riverhead head it.s awful so I hope ye can save that church it is a new one not that old .good luck.

My sister's grave is at the corner of the church. Her headstone is flat on the ground, but it is there - maybe a foot from the building. Genevieve Anne Brazil is her name.
