I am a Lancastian living in Nottinghamshire at the moment but my heart remains in Penwortham where I was born and berad. I appreciate the council run leisure centre here in Nottingham and would hat to see it close so I am happy to join the fight for South Ribble leisure centres to be keptr open, you need to find a way like our council has of making these centres pay for themselves. Closure is not the answer.

I am a regular user of Bamber Bridge Leisure Centre. Several times a week and I live within walking distance. Closing this vital community centre would be criminal and madness.

Sport brings communities together across all ages sports centres are critical to support an aging population mobile rather than becoming a drain on other services we need sustainable long term thinking not short term lazy fixes keep our centres open.

This facility has always been ideal for families - I lived in Walmer Bridge (South Ribble) when my children were young we came to Leyland Leisure Centre and this is where they learnt to swim. Also used many of the activities during their teenage years.

Working in a healthy lifestyle team in the NHS I have seen the positive benefits the centres have on local residents. Not just to their physical but also their emotional health. We need local opportunities for residents of all ages to take part in a range of activities to maintain and improve their health. Closing the centres will only lead to people leading a more sedentary lifestyle and possibly becoming more socially isolated.

My local leisure centre encourages me and my family to WALK for swim sessions. Therefore reducing carbon emmisons and better for my childs health. I thought we were concerned about childhood obesity?! I wont drive to farrington moss quite as regulalry as i walk to penwortham.

Can't believe we need less leisure centres, when Penwortham & the surrounding area is destined for more housing? What about safeguarding the jobs of the Leisure centre staff? After the expense of building a replacement centre, how long would it be before South Ribble saw any real saving on their costs for running the centre? What about the increased number of car journeys people would need to make to access the new centre. What about the erosion of yet another facility for teenagers to use as a meeting place with their friends in the school holidays? The people of South Ribble need to ensure we carry on using these facilities to prove the Council wrong about the need to close these facilities.
