Much needed & much used facility in South Ribble-unbelievable that its closure is being considered????

Closing down an extremely well used local facility that promotes fitness and wellbeing and delivers swimming lessons for many Penwortham residents, to replace it with an out of town facility inaccessible unless people drive to it, all in the name of saving a few pounds, is shameful!

Absolutely shocking idea. Not close for anyone to walk to

We use this regular - be sad for local children to lose a place promoting fitness and wellbeing - if anything lose more council buildings - use the health centre to hold other things - meetings for the council, hold / house some council service

My child goes to one of these pools for swimming lessons as it is close by and if any further I will struggle to get her from school to another pool.

How will younger teens get to this new super centre when they cann't drive? What happen to having good LOCAL services to promote healthy living. Another nail in the coffin for higher Penwortham community.

Why close a good local centre and then waste money on a new super facility which people will have to drive to.

SRBC what are you doing? Leisure centres are a valuable community asset at affordable prices. You have already closed our community libraries. I despair at the decisions being taken by SRBC- they are intent on destroying Penwortham as a residential area with ridiculous planning decisions and now they are putting the final nail in the coffin of the community.

I use this facility 4 to 6 times a week and it would be a significant loss for the community.

Those in authority are always highlighting obesity, so surely closing any health centre is very short sighted, if you carry on the next thing will Libraries. So the next generation could be obese and illiterate

Scrap the pointless cosmetic "improvements" - benches flower tubs statues etc in Penwortham, Longton, Walmer Bridge instead!

A local leisure centre is as much a meeting place for locals to enjoy sport together and meet as a group. An out of town centre would not attract the same groups of elderly and young mothers who at present make good use of the facilities.

Many people can, and do, walk or cycle to their local Leisure Centre. Walking and cycling is to be encouraged. To close local Centres and build one central Centre is not environmentally sustainable.

Moving these leisure centres out of the local areas will not benefit the people who need them most. The people on low incomes or no transport will be unable to access them. This will contribute to unhealthy lifestyles and health issues.

These leisure centres are a vital lifeline to many elderly people who would not be able to access out of town centres. It is a way of keeping fit and healthy and sometimes the only social contact they have.

Local leisure centres are essential for the community to improve health and wellbeing. Putting a 'wonderful ' single centre away from all areas of population will prevent those who walk or cycle currently using them and will limit use by schools as will have only one pool. It is shocking that this can be proposed without consulting the public.
