The district finalized the reversal of the move today and the World Languages program will remain at South Meck. We are now shifting our focus to monitoring the department budget to ensure no further disruptions occur.

This is a petition to keep our amazing World Languages program at South Mecklenburg High School. World Languages has been at South Meck for over 10 years, and in that time it has flourished. Moving it now would be a mistake, for World Languages and for the entire South Meck community. If you agree with me, please sign the petition below. #SAVESOUTH

We need to hit the 1,000 signature mark before I deliver this petition to the school board representatives. Please direct your contacts to this page so we have the necessary leverage during our upcoming meeting.

The administration has acknowledged the surge in public interest regarding the World Languages program. I am preparing a formal request for a meeting with the school board to present these concerns directly. Further updates will follow once the meeting time is confirmed.

We are approaching one hundred signatures which is the threshold required to trigger a formal review by the district administration. Once we hit this target I will submit the full list to the school board office to demand a meeting regarding the program cuts.

Moving the language magnet from South Meck will have devastating consequences for the quality of the program due to trying to staff two programs with critically staffed teachers. Please do not dismantle a program that is so successful!

This is a successful program at SMHS. Moving the magnet program under the guise of alleviating overcrowding at MPHS & SMHS is more accurately an overt attempt to move high performing students out of a very diverse high school. No such sacrifice is being proposed for MPHS. This makes no sense.

My sons will leave the Language program if it doesn’t stay at South Meck. We moved into South Meck to ensure that they would go there. So whatever you do should only effect students starting now so that they understand where they will go to school. Stop changing things in the middle of kids school careers.

Haven’t we students been through enough, CMS? I will be a rising senior when this takes effect why you move me my last year, away from friends and school to a place where I virtually don’t know a soul? Whomever dreamed up this proposal must not have students nor care how we and our families will be affected.

A successful world language program in a school with students representing 60+ countries makes sense. A world view and inclusive experience for those interested in a broader more inclusive education.

Please do not tear apart the successful world languages program. We want it to stay at South Meck!!! If you move the program - it will split the program in two as many families will remain at south and others will be forced to move or disperse to home schools. It would take a decade for this program to recover.
