Councils need to protect local clubs and communities, instead of focusing on their coffers. What's the point in the money if you destroy the communities on which you should be spending it. Clubs like this bind communities together, give youngsters somewhere positive to focus their energy and develop lifelong connections. They also link communities to others in positive ways. Go dig up one or two football pitches and put a car park there!

How can the council even think of destroying all the clubs hard work. Sport is so important in the health and well being of locals ... adults and children alike.

Support the community, cricket is a great game to bring kids & adults together to improve the social outlook of our towns & villages. Why should a council focus on breaking this up! They obviously do not see the value that Shenfield and hundreds of other crickets clubs have done up & down the country.

This seems to be happening all over Essex and always trying to stop Cricket and Family gatherings for Sport.

Pure stupidity from the council. They should focus their efforts elsewhere.

The cricket club and grounds are for the community both young and old. There aren’t enough places for people to go and have now as it is.

My informative years were spent up at SCC; wonderful memories and a brilliant family environment - what is this Council trying do?? Do they not value a strong Community and a very successful Colts programme and wonderful Club - is it now all about the money and not the Community?? Flies in the face of all the government advertising about more active lifecycles - what is this Council's end game; to close the Club and take the land...really???

Generations of children have benifitted from the youth cricket at Shenfiels, gaining experience of teamwork as well as personal fitness and achievement. In today's world such is even more important and should not be undervalued.

My grandsons have been playing at this club for about 15 years. It is the central focus of their lives. I am shocked that a local authority should attempt to undermine a much valued and hugely successful community organisation when it should be supporting them to thrive.

All councils have a duty to preserve sporting and leisure facilities for their residents. Shenfield Cricket Club is a thriving club where young cricketers are coached and nurtured; it is a great asset to the area. Brentwood Borough Council should strongly support this club rather than threaten its existence.

How distressing to learn about the attempted move by BCC to take over the car park at Shenfield Cricket Club with the subsequent loss of vital income to the Club coupled with the potential to evict the Club from the second pitch.

With the well publicised situation of increasing obesity in today's society it is incredible that Brentwood B.C. should be even considering forcing the closure of a local sports facility!

Yet again the Council should be ashamed of itself. Life is all about community and to even be considering getting rid of the club is disgraceful.

This club is a huge and important part of the community and needs to be saved. It has been a vital part in my family's life for over 15 years and without this club (and its many supportive members) I would never have gone on to play county cricket. It povides the oppotunity to play cricket to both boys and girls of all ages, and is a friendly and supportive place for all.

This is a much used, much loved community facility.
