Non-academic activities play an important part in preventing juvenile delinquency. Save the cricket club!

Sport plays an extremely important role in keeping communities together and providing an outlet for young people in particular to participate as a team.

I played many games here in my youth and the facility should remain available as a vital leisure venue for the youngsters of today who would otherwise further morph into couch potatoes

Clubs such this are invaluable community assets that represent fantastic value for money, thanks to the huge amount of voluntary, unpaid, helpers they have. If it ain't broke don't fix it - and certainly don't destroy it for no good reason. Shame on you. Leave well alone, BBC.

Surely councils have better things to do than shut sports grounds down.....try rubbish collection and fixing roads

Community assets are at the heart of social cohesion and community exchange. the current Government policy promotes this principle and values both the social capital and economic contribution that volunteers bring through sport. well established and sustainable clubs such as Shenfield CC should be supported and encouraged, rather than threatened by mindless bureaucracy! I hope the club hits the local Council for six!

Shenfield CC is thriving, it has a massive role in the local community, providing recreation to cricketers of all age groups and standards. It develops young cricketers and promotes the game locally. Leave the club alone, don't ruin a good thing!

My son grew up playing cricket at this club and I also learnt a lot from being a coach and team manager for many years here. We still play for the club in senior cricket and support it in any way possible. It has a tremendous social side and helps keep lots of young children and adults fit and active. Brentwood Council's bullying tactics are a disgrace and they would be better spending money on other more pressing needs.

Please protect our local cricket club - this is a great place for young people to play sport & develop in a safe environment. Brings a lot of joy to many families in the area.

Once again Brentwood Council is trying to force a valuable community asset out of existence using the same flawed logic they tried in 2014-2015. It is outrageous Conservative Councilors are now reneging on the 2016 agreement agreed after Sir Eric Pickles MP intervened. If this is how they deal with local issues what chance do we have with Brexit? I do not enjoy seeing my council tax wasted in this way (again)..

I dread to think who I would be and where I would be without the support of this cricket club. Dispicable, albeit predictable, behaviour from the brentwood council.

Don't let Brentwood Council get away with this. Disgraceful.

Shenfield CC is and has been a huge part of my two sons lives since they were 6 years old. They are now 15 and 13. Surely a community minded, welcoming and inclusive club such as this shouldn't be put under threat in this way. Government guidelines are to increase physical activity for both adults and children - surely clubs that promote an alternative to time spent in front of a screen should be encouraged and helped rather than being forced to battle against bureaucracy every step of the way. #saveourclub

The council should consult with their family on this first. Cricket is a great sport and needs local clubs in every community. Grass roots

Why take a club away from hundreds of local children? What else is there for them to do apart from hang around on the streets!!
