My family have been involved with Shenfield Cricket Club for over 70 years. It would be catastrophic if we lost this wonderful family club. Save Our Club.

The Courage family, long serving Presidents and members of SCC, gifted the Shenfield cricket field to Brentwood Council in the 1950s “for the purposes of open space, recreation grounds and playing fields” and with the proviso that SCC should be allowed use of the cricket field (land which clearly includes the area now used by the Club for car parking) for as long as the Club remains in existence. In its greedy efforts to generate more income from car parking the Council now argues that it can take over the car park without which the Club cannot operate ,thus deliberately trying to force it out of existence. The real reason for all this is, of course, that The Council ultimately wants the cricket field to develop for housing. Even if the survival of the cricket club is not important to you (and it certainly is to me) all local people should fight to preserve the green space which is Courage Playing Field, because a housing estate is what it will become if SCC dies.

Shenfield Cricket Club is an essential community asset, contributing to the development of young people and helping local schools support their students in the best possible. The threat to its future has far reaching consequences which our councillors really need to understand.

It is truly shocking to see Shenfield Councillors do nothing to stop our youth work from being closed down if I hadn't witnessed how they behave over 4 years I never would have believed it. We should vote them off ASAP and get people who actually want to support local poeple.

I have been a member of this club for over 16 years. I have grown up there and it has been a wonderful place for children of all ages to learn to play cricket. It has a wonderful social atmosphere where all are welcome. Do not let beurocracy ruin a community.

Once again another borough council with zero idea about how a local sport facility benefits the whole community. We've had a similar experience with our local council in Northamptonshire - it is widespread these problems and will only continue to happen more unless we ALL put the effort in.
