Such a shame that this is even an issue. The club should be left as it is to keep providing somewhere for local children to take up the sport, as well help nurture future professional cricketers. With a lack of safe places for people to go anymore these local clubs are so important yet councils keep doing all they can to try to get rid of them.

Shame on you bbc, putting b4 community yet again. You must start to think that shenfield is a living vibrant community of people who live and want support a community into the future. Its another attempt to wipe out decent open space. The easiest options are not always the best.

Cricket is already going downwards in England and such acts are going to make it difficult for local clubs to survive. We as cricketers need to spread the news and save Shenfield CC

Hi, please reconsider this action urgently. Grassroots cricket is of fundamental importance to communities, and killing a club like Shenfield would be a disaster for cricket in Essex.

I am still struggling to think of ANY justifiable reason why BBC would want to kill off such a much loved & supremely well supported community club. It is a social hub and encourages so many to discover the sport of cricket and the fitness, health and social benefits it brings. Sometimes money is not a good enough reason...& this is one of those situations. Leave Shenfield CC be!

Local councils should be supporting clubs like Shenfield, not looking for a quick £. Clubs like Shenfield are far more valuable to communities than the sum of their land.

This green space is for the community. I used it for my children and it should be there for the children now. We used the Cricket club for birthday parties - and it needs a car park for that.

Surely a council should be seen to support sporting facilities, especially for young people as sport can stay with them for life. This club provides young people with something to fill their time that is healthy and active. Surely that should be encouraged and in turn will save money on policing and health services as our young people are spending time productively.

Our children have been members of this cricket club for a total of 11 years so far. They interact with members both young and old, learn the rules of the game, have respect for their coaches and older supporters, join in as a family with the getting ready of the club for the season and to pack it away at the end of the season.
We attend as spectators of the men's games enjoying weekends as a community with friends. We hope that both of our sons will be able to bring their children to the club too and that the facilities are there for the next generation to experience the safe and supportive environment, to keep fit, make friends, be respectful and appreciate the beautiful environment that Shenfield Cricket Club provides.
