Save Out Skerries!
From and on behalf of the parents & community of Out Skerries, please sign our petition to save our secondary department. The Skerries school bairns would have to make a 1hour 30minute open sea ferry crossing followed by a 30 minute taxi ride into Lerwick every Sunday evening & back again on a Friday evening at the age of 11 years!! Weather in Shetland can be merciless and we have often witnessed the ferry arriving at the North East entrance only to have to turn around and make her way back to Vidlin/Whalsay as the sea conditions is so bad she can't get in. Imagine yourselves at the age of 11 on that ferry, so close to getting home to your mum and dad only to turn around and go again. The whole experience of the ferry journey and being away from parents for at least 5 nights has a detrimental effect on some children making their education suffer. Please help us to keep our children at home and not be taken away from us. Please sign our petition. Thank you
