LHA needs to focus on issues that impact the fascades & front yards of homes to maintain the historical nature of the neighborhood. They've failed time and time again which is plan to see as you drive through the neighborhood and see the proliferation of cheap modern windows that don't fit the tudor houses they were installed in. So while they drop the ball on the basics, they are going legal on a tree house. I've sent this to the Oakland Tribune. The LHA members should be embarrassed. The people they work with should know their character. NOBODY should hire Backus for work in this neighborhood.

I am also an architect. I have tried to see the positive things that the LHA has done. But if what I understand about this story is true, then this effort is so misguided I am nearly speechless. I am interested in seeing the LHA put time and attention on neighborhood activities that are positive and community enriching.

The new board and officers need to learn to be good neighbors, and stop acting as the neighborhood bullies. Their election (putting aside its legitimacy) does not give them license to pursue petty personal vendettas.

Using HOA dues as legal fees for this issue is a gross misuse of resources. Do better, LHA. Solve this by being a neighbor, not a litigator.

if the c&r's allow the treehouse, to what end is the HOA pursuing the expense, diviseness, and pettiness by engaging a legal action which will cost a great deal of money of both sides? ultimately, the questionof whether legal action can even be pursued without a quorum homeowners' notarized vote?

Shocking! We have failed to get any HOA action on a 20+ year eyesore at 842 Grosvenor. Unlike this tree house, this home is a deteriorating building deminishing the value of our neighborhood!

I live in Crocker Highlands and think the actions of the HOA Board are a travesty. Neighborhood Design Review is a function of the City of Oakland and should be taken away from the HOA.

Came upon this and can't believe your HOA would act like this. Being in NC I can tell you, this LHA action is now a national embarrassment. Apologize to the home owner, assess your principles and restart. Silly, silly, silly
