Save Our Swimmers
Throughout previous years, the Mckinney swim teams have shared the pool through three different time slots: 6:00 am, 7th period, and 3:30 pm. Using the three year rotation schedule that has been in effect in the past, Mckinney Boyd should swim at 6 am, Mckinney High at 7th period, and Mckinney North at 3:30 pm for the 2017-2018 school year. However, Mckinney Boyd will be moving to the APEX center next year, not utilizing their 6 am time slot at the Sam Serio Natatorium. Instead of removing this time, Mckinney High has been moved to 6 am, and North to 7th period, despite the fact that we had these times for the 2015-2016 school year. Many Mckinney High swimmers believe that this would not be a beneficial time to swim, as it requires us to wake up at an hour unfit for a teenagers natural sleep schedule. Swimmers will be exerting a substantial amount of energy before the school day has even started. These factors can cause many students to fall asleep in class and have negative impact on grades and overall performance. In addition to these issues, swimmers will only have 19 minutes to prepare for the school day after practice ends, with only 4 showers, limited mirror space, and minimal outlets. Sign this petition to ensure Mckinney High obtains a practice time that makes happier, healthier, and more successful students and swimmers!
