Did you know that North Carolina is the only State that prosecutes statutory rape the same as a forced violent rape. Have you ever looked on the sex registry and wondered how many of these young men (18-21years old) were listed because some young girl lied about her age ? Did you know that the young man can not even use the fact that the girl lied about her age even if she admitts it in court. According to the laws in North Carolina the girl (15 and under) is not old enough to make decisions about her own body. But the North Carolina School system teachs sex education in the 5th grade. In these classes they learn about STD's, where to get and how to use contraceptives and how to recieve them for free at the local Health Dept. On top of that the girl nor her parents have to press charges if the detective can get the young man to unknowingly admit to having had sex with the girl then the State DA can prosecute without her consent.Something has to be done to change this law !! To many young men are being sent to prison and have to register as sex offenders for the rest of their lives when there was NEVER ANY CRIMINAL INTENT. Please save our sons, this not only impacts their lives now but also their whole future. Men listed on the sex offender registry have an impossible time finding jobs and no one wants them in their neighborhood, how is this in any way considered justice ?
