PETITION TO SAVE OUR SOLDIER (S.O.S.)
To All Residents of the Village of Whitehouse:
After 115 years at its current location, our village council intends to move our Soldier’s Monument and Cannon out of Whitehouse Park, to an empty lot next to the Buzz. Their plans have already begun to be implemented, with the removal of the pavilion last fall. Removal of the monument is scheduled to begin in Spring, just a few short weeks away.
Our soldier was installed as a “National Memorial”, in the words of the residents of Whitehouse on July 4, 1900. It has stood guard ever since.
We believe our soldier deserves to stay in his place of public honor, at the tip of Whitehouse Park. We believe the plans to move him, without effective public notice and without full disclosure of the costs to the village residents, are not in the best interests of Village residents, nor is it supported by the majority of Whitehouse residents.
This petition will be submitted as evidence of public opinion in an attempt to Save Our Soldier. Please sign below, and spread the word to neighbors and friends here in Whitehouse. Your support matters!

I have been walking past the park every morning and looking at our soldier knowing he has watched over this ground for over a century. The council is still pushing their plan forward but I am spending my time gathering more information on their actual budget and proposed timeline. We deserve to know why they are so eager to move a monument that defines the spirit of our village.

Seeing the park filled with neighbors discussing the move has reminded me why this memorial belongs exactly where he stands. The momentum behind our cause is incredible and it proves that the history of this village is still alive in all of us.

The soldier has a very place in whitehouse . For so many people that have came down to the park for the cherry fest . Kids growing up in the town hanging at the park . It should always stay where it was placed . Whitehouse would not be the same if it is moved.
History should not be touched nor destroyed. But shall be spoken of. Please keep our soldier in its rightful home infront of the park in Whitehouse.
Leave memorials honoring veterans alone. Individuals honored by these memorials paid a high price for your freedom and should not be treated dishonorably nor taken for granted.
i was born and raised in whitehouse. My mother still lives in the family home. I lived there until the age of 31. I am now 48 and have moved to Waterville. Although I no longer live in town I believe that the solider should remain where he is as should the canon. There is plenty of room to errect a new pavilion in the park and leave them alone. It is still my beleaf that someone is getting some favors for pushing this so hard to change. I am just saying
This historical part of the village needs to be preserved by remaining at it's present location. Also secrecy needs to end.

This must be tabled until the people of the village can see a design plan that includes the statue and cannon. Put it on the ballot! We need to honor those that have served our country in the past and preserve the history of our village. Use funds to restore instead of moving it to a nondescript lot!! Shame on the council for even considering such an idea and giving another slap in the face of our vets!
