In 1923, Francis J. Mahar started a chain of small, family orientated grocery stores in the local communities. Besides providing meat, produce and dry goods at reasonable prices, many high school and college students were employed by the Mahar family, along with adults supporting their family. Today, 90 years later, these staples of our community is being threatened.
