The Borough Council voted tonight to block the demolition and approve emergency funding for the theater. We are now shifting our focus to the public hearing where the transition plan for our new non-profit management group will be finalized.

Save our Historic Movie Theater!
Save Madison's Movie Theater! We, the Concerned Residents and Friends of Madison request that the Mayor and Council uphold the vision of the Borough of Madison’s Historic Civic Commercial District by preserving our town's only movie theater. This theater has served residents for generations and has enriched our lives and our community. The Theater has been a key part of our community since before World War II...90 plus years!! The building and the theatre are an integral part of the Lincoln Place streetscape that should be preserved. The new owner’s intention to demolish the theater to build condominiums is not consistent with the site’s history or best use. This site is simply too important to lose to private development that would forever change the nature of our Historic Downtown District.
By signing this petition, each of us is in support of the Borough providing emergency interim funding to rescue the theater and allow community groups to develop a plan for its use as a not-for-profit movie, arts, and cultural center.

I love the Madison theater, and it would be terrible if we lost it because it's so convenient for kids when they want to hang out with their friends in town and parents feel good about letting their children be by themselves because they know it's a safe environment.
I have always enjoyed the convenience of going to the movies at the Madison Movie Theater and feel it is a wholesome family presence in our town. Also, it encourages patronage at local restaurants and businesses. Laurie Hagerich Madison NJ
The building is literally the heart of Madison, and the space could be used in a variety of ways to further the downtown revitalization vision. An arts/culture/theater and public performance space would be great for the town and draw in outside revenue.
I have been here 20 years raised my daughter alone ,a beautiful community& Excellent schools being a single mother I would take her to the movies it was a way of bonding from our busy lives I LOVE this town , and I hope we can keep this Amazing landmark Theater
The fact that Madison has its own theater that kids and families can walk to is part of Madison's charm! There's no need for another over-priced restaurant or high end condos. How about we do something for the current Madison residents, including the kids that live here.
Such a huge part of Madison history....save it for future generations!!!

I presented a plan to the save the theatre as an arts-based space and was shut down by both the real estate agency and member of the local government. I appreciate those organizing and supporting this petition...save the theater!
