These ferries are good for tourism. It's quaint taking the ferry ride, seeing the seals and marine birds is exciting for young and old. It's a treat for children. The operators act as greeters and tour guides for tourists. Answering questions, providing questions etc.
These ferries are part of the fabric of the community.
They provide employment in two areas that desperately need it. We have lost and we continue to lose too many community members to "out west". Please give a few locals the opportunity to continue to work and live at home.

The ferries are an important part of the economy and culture of these communities. I always look forward to the view of St. Ann's Bay from the ferry, and bet many tourists do too. Would the investment in building bridges, coupled with ongoing maintenance, save much money? And would the more et saved, if there is any be large enough to make up for the jobs lost? Or the chance for travellers to sit back and enjoy the views for a few minutes?

Give me a break!! $50 million would be at least $150 million if government estimates on previous capital projects hold true and there are no reasons that I can see to indicate otherwise. What that means is that we would all be paying tolls, on the bridge itself and on our taxes.
It's easy to throw cost estimate numbers around when there is no actual design associated with them.
I say keep the jobs here and go stick your bridge.

Taking the ferry is an enjoyment for us when we visit Cape Breton as well as a lot of relatives from other provinces.

I totally agree with all the comments especially about employment but the government should also roll back the cost of crossing to a dollar or maybe $2.00 It is terrible what we pay now as the Ferry service is part of the road system

Once again the Government is trying to spend millions of dollars to replace a system that is working well, keeping the local people employed. Why not spend these millions on the roads that are in such deplorable condition!!
