I recently learnt that Newham are considering closing the children's centre at Grassroots. Should this occur, this will significantly impact Barney Bears Nursery in West Ham who I have been advised would have to close as a result. My daughter currently attends Barney Bears Nursery in Barking. Whilst I will therefore not be directly impacted by the changes, I am aware of the predicament that must be facing all the parents whose children currently attend the West Ham nursery. I work five days a week, full time in Central London. When making the choice as to appropriate day-care provision for my daughter, Barney Bears ranked at the top due to its strong Ofsted rating and its hours of operation. Were the Barking site ever to close, I would be at a complete loss. It was extremely difficult to find a nursery which fits around the working hours of my husband and I and which we trusted to provide the same level and quality of care that we would provide our daughter had either of us been stay-at-home parents. It is a testimony to the quality of the nursery, that we have recommended it to other parents and as a result, our nephew will also shortly be joining the nursery on a part-time basis. Considering the importance to my family of Barney Bears Nursery in Barking, I am convinced that many of the parents in West Ham must be anxious regarding Newham's proposals. For these parents, it will be incredibly difficult to organise alternative childcare. Therefore, I strongly urge you to reconsider your decision. Whilst I appreciate that Newham have other admirable plans for the use of the centre, please take into consideration the impact that the decision will have on Barney Bears Nursery in West Ham and the children and parents who depend upon the Nursery on a daily basis. Kind regards, Ms Inderpal Dhillon

The centre provides vital care for working families , closure of this facility simply means no childcare.

It is disgraceful that the council are considering the closure of Grassroots. Newham is crying out for more well run childcare facilities NOT LESS.

Please Keep the childrens centres open. Parents and children need centres and nurseries to go to. Theres already a shortage of childrens centres and nurseries, this will have a devastating effect on families.

Please keep the children centre in West Ham open Barney Bears nursery is a fantastic nursery for children to learn through play. It would also leave a lot of working parents with no childcare

These closures have to stop as working parents should not have to go out of their way to get their kids to nursery then get on to work themselves.

Grassroots and other children's centres alike should not be closed. Our daughter attends Barney Bears nursery. It provides us with invaluable support allowing us to continue with our careers. Barney Bears has been a huge positive factor in the development of our daughter. Closing such centres would be a huge blow for the parents and more importantly the children. Kindly consider our request to keep this centre open.

Hello My little one who is 20 months old goes to Barney Bears nursery in West ham. He has shown great improvement ever since he is going there. We have understood that the Newham council is planning to take over the grassroots building which means closing down of the nursery. We are strictly opposing this move as this is the only nursery which is opened till late (18.30) which allows us, working parents bit leeway in picking up kids following our hectic work hours. Also because of the proximity of tube station we are reducing the carbon footprint by using public transport. Hence we request you not to takeover the grassroots building

What will this achieve? Does the local council want parents to just sit at home with their children? Budget cuts is not going to sort problems out. Instead you are playing games with a child future.

Children need more not less educational outlets.
