This picture speaks volumes to me. As you see my mom and Teresa are looking at us girls with pride. My mom was fighting breast cancer and still coaching volleyball and WON MULLIN'S FIRST DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP in a 2A district. But let's not focus on my mom beating breast cancer, but her assistant coach Teresa Shelton. I remember when my mom was in chemo treatment every Wednesday and Teresa was the one coaching us in practice. Teresa pushed us trained us and kept us laughing. Those beautiful shirts we are wearing, "Team Angie" was because of Teresa! Mullin's volleyball was a losing program before Angie Sims Salinas AND Teresa took it over, and for four years straight they won 4 back to back to back to back district championship. And now Mullin ISD is stripping Teresa from her assistant coaching job. Teresa was such a great coach to be under even though she embarrassed us by honking at everyone! So my mom being the great friend is refusing to coach volleyball bc Teresa and her are a team! They taught us girls what leadership and love was!! They never bad mouthed Mullin they love the school and the kids. Please stay behind them they took over a losing program that was an embarrassment that no coach really wanted but they never once gave up on us. They're a true coaches and play to win but they love all their girls. Please support them and fight for what's right. feel the community of Mullin should know. A winning athletic program comes from great coaches and BOTH COACH SALINAS AND COACH SHELTON are the best coaches who walked the halls of Mullin ISD.

Updates

August 11, 2017

I have requested a formal meeting with the school board to discuss the criteria used for the recent coaching staff changes. Legal counsel is currently reviewing the employment contract policies to determine our next steps regarding this decision.

I understand budgets and needing to make adjustments in a small school district. I certainly hope there is room elsewhere to move money and keep this team together.

Angie and Teresa are both great coaches but most importantly they are great people. I had the pleasure to be around them when my father was the principal there. I got to attend many of the volleyball games and even called lines for them from time to time. They treat those girls like they are their own children. They bring the best out of each and every one of those girls, I know because I saw it firsthand. It will be a very big mistake to not let them continue to coach.

My granddaughter benefited so much from this program countless ways. It inspires young girl athletes unity leadership diversity and teaching one of life's lessons. You don't always win but you do it with dignity

As a troubled tooth in foster care, i attended Mullin School. The volleyball program was a way to escape my life. It taught me things that I never learned in the home... Like teamwork and integrity. I think it would be a big mistake to pull this program.

You have my vote! Teresa and Angie are amazing women! They spread love everywhere they go. Some tough love and some genuine love. Either way they put there whole heart in anything they do! I loved both of them dearly while I was in school and they made me feel loved anytime I seen them in the halls or hear them screaming in the stands! Both deserve to be coaches. I personally would have loved to play for them!

I am a 2007 graduate of Mullin I.S.D. I have attended this school from kindergarten until I graduated. These two ladies are amazing ladies and have already been a part of that school, from attending, being our biggest fans to coaching theses girls. Pleas keep the volleyball going with Teresa Shelton and Angie Sims.

Many moons ago, I moved to Mullin after the death of my father to be closer to other family. I was 16 years old and moved from DFW (and at the time, the largest high school in Texas). Culture shock was real. While registering for school the principal at the time told me "if you are not involved in school activities, there is nothing else to do". I cried. My dramatic teenage self thought I was "too cool for school". But, I joined the volleyball team. I began practicing a few weeks before school started. I met people that I am still friends with today... 18 years later. I never could have imagined the joy it would bring to my life, and the valuable life lessons it would teach me, the fun, the exercise, the happiness... What a shame it would be for young girls now to lose this sport and coaches that obviously care.
