The DOE has confirmed the renewal of our license under terms that allow for continued operations at the facility. We are currently reviewing the finalized lease documents to ensure full compliance with the new requirements. My focus now shifts to overseeing the transition to these updated operational protocols.

Hello friend,
I am creating this petition as a private citizen and member of the Los Alamos Sportsmen's Club.
As you may know, the US Department of Energy (DOE) grants a license to LASC on an annual basis. That license expires December 31, and recent communication from DOE, as reported by the Los Alamos Reporter's Facebook page, indicates the Club may be facing permanent closure with an order to cease operations and will include an order to vacate the property based on nebulous terms for a new annual license, which more than likely will be viewed as untenable.
The good news is that we may have a short period of time that can be used to gain public support to voice opposition to this untenable situation.
You might agree with me that LASC provides a robust, valuable and critical community-based outdoor sporting service and safe location for residents of Los Alamos to include a vast number of citizens in northern New Mexico.
LASC offers all residents of northern New Mexico a safe and structured environment for a variety of sporting endeavors to include a rifle range, archery facilities, an indoor range, specific areas for handgun use, competitive events for handgun, shotgun, and rifle aficionados, a variety of shotgun-related sporting disciplines, and a classroom facility as a location for imparting firearm safety training to members and the public.
In short, outside of the NRA's multi-million dollar facility in Raton, we proudly believe LASC is the finest such multi-faceted sporting facility north of Albuquerque. To lose such a valuable community asset would be tragic to the residents of not just Los Alamos, but to those of northern New Mexico as well.
I am asking for your help and support in communicating the devastating effect of possible LASC closure to public officials by signing this petition. You are also able to add comments along with your signature.

The Los Alamos Sportsman's Club is the Only legal shooting range for a 100 mile radius. Closing it will result in otherwise law abiding citizens illegally shooting on LANL, Federal, and State land. I urge LANL to sign a long term agreement with LASC. Thank you.
As someone who works at the lab, this facility provides a great deal of enjoyment to myself, many of my friends, and a large number of people in the community. The closure of this complex may provide incentive for myself and my family to find employment in a different region.
The function of this property serves so much more than just a place to shoot firearms. It is a special location for families to spend time together and to pass down their shooting heritage. Helping to mold and develop young men and women into model citizens.
Please keep the Sportman's club open. It keeps the land around it safe from environmental contamination from shooting activities in other than a controlled location. It's a vital part of the community and used by many.
Among other reasons to keep it up and running, the Los Alamos Sportsmen's Club is a factor in talent recruitment and attraction for LANL. It is also a vital resource for the Los Alamos school athletics program. Closing such a fine and welcoming range would be a tragedy.
I do not get to participate as often as I would like but, not participating is just not an option. Los Alamos Sportsman Club must continue to be a community asset ... thank you
We need our range this will devistate many of our hobbies this will just lead to people going and shooting outside the range and causing unsafe practices.

The LASC is a longstanding, unique community club that we need to continue. It offers responsible gun safety training to citizens throughout Northern New Mexico. It deserves DOE/ NNSA encouragement to continue LASC services through negotiation of a new lease that is reasonable and fair to all parties.
