Though we are unable to write individual statements about the closing of Kuwae Preschool in English, we share a unified opinion on the matter that we feel the need to express. The first-hand experiences in understanding diversity, and the cultural immersion opportunities that have been granted to our students through our relationship with Kuwae preschool are invaluable and irreplaceable. We, the parents of children attending iac International Academy, feel deeply saddened that such a mutually beneficial relationship could potentially come to an end. It would truly be a travesty to begrudge children the opportunity to have meaningful interactions with other children who, though living on the same island, live such beautifully different lives than their own. Because of this, we support the petition to save Kuwae preschool, and uphold the traditions that we consider immeasurably valuable for Japanese and American children alike.

Kuwae Preschool set my children up for success in elementary school! Three of my five children attended Kuwae. We were lucky to find a great preschool on base were my children were taught in a warm and caring environment. Please find a way to keep Kuwae preschool open. Having an affordable preschool on base with both American and Japanese teachers is too important to give up on!

School early child development are essential for children to begin learning. The school needs to be repaired and reopened for future children to grow.

I know how difficult it is to find a good preschool, from what I have heard and the pictures I have seen this preschool is one of the best. Please reconsider and keep this preschool open.

Kuwae preschool is the only 'American style' preschool on island that offers a Monday, Wednesday, Friday option! 5 days a week is too much for some preschoolers. Please don't take away this play oriented preschool!!

The military family there in Okinawa needs Kuwae Preschool! Military children suffer in so many ways due to our lifestyle, but why add to that by eliminating such an essential step in their education. So many studies prove the significance of completing preschool. Please help our children, families and the military members themselves by keeping Kuwae Preschool open!

Please keep Kuwae open. This was the best school for my children while stationed in Okinawa. They still talk about it and that was 10 years ago.

Please keep this wonderful school open! Ayano-San, Aya-San, Saya-San and Ms. Emily have done an amazing job and it would be a huge loss to the military community to see it all end.

Love, Love, Love this! I hope it helps keep such a unique school going. My Daughter loved the school and loved her teachers. I just hate to see the only pre-k school with a great educational presence on base go away after 50 years!

The closure of this pre school would be a great loss to the military community, in my opinion. When we started looking for a program to place our child in while stationed in Okinawa, Kuwae impressed me with the high standards for education. Every teacher has a degree in education and were dedicated to enriching these little minds with meaningful curriculum. I want to say what it meant to my family for 4 years stationed in a foreign country while my husband deployed for most of that time: 1.american and Japanese staff provided the opportunity to get to know " locals" in the familiararity of the military installation- which encouraged me to explore the island more 2. Opportunity for community involvement- i.e. Joining a committee or volunteering 3. My child learned to write the entire alphabet and her name at age 3, Also learned many words and phrases, songs in Japanese language 4. Met many friends and connections attending the meet and greets that I never would have connected with otherwise. 5. The school provides income to local nationals and military spouse. Those are my top 5. I am available for further comment if needed.

Seems like there should have been more of an effort made to keep the school open. It just ended abrubtly in the middle of the year.

My son enjoyed 2 years at Kuwae pre-school. It was a wonderful experience for both he and I. The staff nurtured his strong personality, and helped to make the Japanese culture such a natural part of life. It allowed me an opportunity to volunteer as the Scholastic representative. I was so proud of this school that I was inspired to write a song for the children's graduation. Although we are no longer on island, it was such a nice surprise to hear that the following graduation class sang it as well. It would be such a shame for their doors to be closed permanently, as it is the only pre-school on a military base there. Here's hoping someone will hear us and make a change!!

This school has an amazing program and staff! Kuwae is one, of very few options for parents of preschoolers residing in Okinawa.
