Save Kirklees DofE

Its an amazing opportunity to do dofe, dont restrict 14-25 year olds lives.

DofE helped me make new friends and make stronger bonds with current ones. I also enjoyed learning new skills that have already helped me in so many different ways

This is outrageous the DofE awards actually get young people out of the house and offers a once in a life time opportunity that will always be memorable.

So few of these valuable resources are available; they are all too easy to close but the savings are paltry while the losses are great.

Duke of Edinburgh was an essential part of forming the person I am proud to be today. Without a doubt the cost of running Duke of Edinburgh in Kirklees is far outweighed by what will be given back to the community by those who had the opportunity to engage in the Duke of Edinburgh award. Universities and employers see the Duke of Edinburgh award as great achievement and so scrapping the award in Kirklees would have a large knock on effect on the employability and educational opportunities for those growing up in Kirkless.

How could you cut something that has offered so many people incredible opportunities that they are so grateful for it's really upsetting.

The DoE award got me into volunteering and sports coaching nearly 10 years ago which developed by communication skills. Without these I know I would be a completely different person today.

Please don't make cuts these children need all the help & support they can get. I have a son with disabilities .

I have been involved with the D of E for twenty years in London and the last fifteen in West Yorkshire with the Kirklees Unit. The value of the scheme to the student, school and employer is invaluable and it saddens me to think how this decision could impact on young people in the future. Especially disabled access and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

This is a great scheme. Save it!

Think all kids should be made to do this

This is an award which is available to D of E award centres and to other groups of young people through schools and the uniformed groups. The licence is the only help our Scouts get towards their award as the rest is done by volunteers.

Myself and my children have done the DofE awards and it has been extremely beneficial. Children mix with others that would not normally supporting community cohesion, tackling racism and xenophobia . Children experience the outdoors and are physically active lowering childhood obesity and mental illness. Children experience risk and learn to effectively risk assess for themselves. Children learn to effectively communicate and work as a team supporting valuable life skills. The most disadvantaged children are equal to more fortunate/affluent peers. Relationships, role models and effective mentors and leaders thrive. Please preserve our precious DofE for future generations at this most important and sensitive time for our society. The program could be developed further looking at reaching the most disadvantaged children and young people.

This is a valuable service provided for next to no money! Huge value for money service...!

All three of my children benefited from D of E. It is a brilliant development opportunity for our youth. Fight to keep it !

This is a backwards step. We need to engage and encourage young people in a positive way.
