DofE in Kirklees is an invaluable service for local young people including those with a disability. It should be a key element of services and should never be cut - that is incredibly short-sighted

How can we, as a community, afford to cut a service that allows young people to gain vital skills and experience in a safe and nurturing environment. How many times do we hear negative reports about young people who are board and disaffected in modern society. Every service like this that is cut impacts on our wider community not just the young people involved.

Our son is a vunerable adult who has benefitted and still does. He recieved his gold award last year in Edingburgh which was a massive thing for him and us. It is a big part of him trying to retain some independence and confidence. His quality of life will not be the same if the D O E closes. There are other ways of saving money without affecting the most vunerabke people in society.

How on earth can anybody in their right mind want to close such a well run, excellently led, strong organisation that helps vulnerable young people that cannot get this experience anywhere else.

Kirklees Duke of Edinburgh's award has been a vital part of many young people's lives, myself and my brother's included. My brother, who has Down's Syndrome, gained his Gold award which, apart from being a massive achievement, has helped him greatly with his independence and social ability - and I'm sure many can say the same. Closing these services down would be a terrible mistake.

In a world where young people are influenced by gang culture and technology this is a valuable service that is run by the council to our toung people that encourage them to get outdoors and get involved with the community values that are rare to find today. Instead of paying MP bonuses and ridiculous wages we should give back to the community and not line the pockets of corrupt MPs

Please keep the Dofe open in Kirklees, my daughter is currently doing her bronze. This awards are excellent for children, it teaches them new skills, gets them outdoors (instead of being on their mobile phones all the time). What else is the council going to cut?

I can't speak highly enough of the uplifting, inspiring impact of being involved with D of E and WACKY, as a parent of two teenagers, one with autism, and I am proud to be a volunteer myself with an organisation which supports young people to develop, achieve and succeed, often against huge odds. How can you put a value on something like that?

Losing the DOf E team would be a huge blow to young people with physical and learning disabilities did their families.

People complain about the youth of today. BUT if you keep taking more away from them then what is expected. D of E is a godsend along with the WACKY. This must be kept.

My daughter had reached gold award on this scheme. It has given her so many skills and promoted so many much needed characteristics for her role in society and her career. This is a great opportunity for so many teenagers especially in today's shallow world.

If you shut this dawn ask your self the question what and were will there go?
Also these help the people who dont think there can do out when there can its help so many people along the way and we have plenty more to give ,
So please please don't shut us dawn help us help us jeep going getting theses people get what there think there cart get seeing them come along so far and not give up on them

The DofE team give invaluable support to the young people of Kirklees allowing them to complete there awards. The young people learn teamwork they do voluntary work in the community and learn lots of life skills

D of E is such a fantastic scheme, too many kids benefit from taking part for it to be scrapped. Come on Kirklees stop these stupid cuts and look elsewhere
