My daughter has Down syndrome and loves going to both Wacky during the summer and also Duke of Edinburgh- which she has started working towards her bronze medal - this is a very important service especially for children and young people with disabilities - there is so little out there as it is for our young people and this is a lifeline during their very long summer college breaks

I have worked through the DoE and found the activates that we did to be an opening to Be respectful for all others and the fitness accept was good as I had to be fit to mange the expedition and other areas of the award. I have now worked with WHACKY and the other groups (such as the gardening this gave new understanding to what we eat and how we need to eat it) as well as the DoE they may be a rough bunch at the beginning but at the end you see a matured young person with ambition and understanding with this will be better prepared to find work.. I will help out where I can to keep the center open. the people in the Whacky. have wonderful time doing thing they may have only imagined to do.

The council will be fools to allow the flagship D of E scheme in Kirklees to discontinue. It is incredibly cost effective and reaches so many young people in Kirklees, In particular, it's inclusiveness of ALL particularly disabled young people is probably the best in the country.

Yet more short sightedness, this gives young people an extra string to there bow when fighting in a dog eat dog job world, irony the dog will end up biting the dog back in the long run!

My daughter was lucky enough to access this brilliant service where she could experience activities that she couldn't get anywhere else that really helped her think enabled rather than disabled. Shame Kirklees think this is a luxury that we can do without.
