I did my D of E through an open access youth service because my school did not offer another way of completing the scheme. Perhaps there would be more pressure on schools to offer the D of E scheme if the cuts are made but by joining an open access youth service I was able to canoe my expeditions which I don't think many schools would offer. It also allowed me to complete the award with people I didn't previously know and get a new interest. Young people need a new and interesting focus to learn life skills and develop a positive attitude. This contributes to academic attainment.

Where will all the children go 1 in 4 kids complete the dofe, crime rates will increase jobs will be lost...

D of E was a massive part of my life and taken me places I never expected to see. It's one of the main reasons I got onto my university degree and I have also been allowed to meet Prince Phillip himself. I think it's a really important factor that all young people should be allowed to choose. Don't take away this amazing opportunity for young people, we should be encouraging further generations to get outdoors and do these things, rather than staying at home playing computer games etc.

I understand the budget pressures faced by Kirklees but this must be one of the most cost effective ways to support over 600 young people to develop and grow. Plus the WACKY scheme for young people with disabilities. The long term benefits are enormous.

DofE is a fantastic opportunity for local kids to develop the most incredible sense of determination and a feeling of real achievement away from the academic pressures of school. Two of my daughters have completed all three levels through Mirfield Open Award centre and my third daughter has just started her Silver award. If the council do not provide safe opportunities for young people to extend their experiences outside of school in a safe yet challenging environment, then they are seriously letting our young people down. Surely this would have implications for safeguarding for some youngsters.

The opportunities both my twins have experienced through D of E have been massive. It has given my son the confidence to meet new friends and also take part in group sports and activities which he didn't have the confidence to do at school. His twin sister has fowcisl needs and we have always tried to give her the same opportunities as him in life. Kirklees D if Ae has certainly enabled this and has far excelled our expectations. One of my proudest moments was to see them both at the town hall gaining their awards in the same night. We chose the right path for both our children by enrolling them on D of E. They were challenged, encouraged, involved, respected, included, motivated and definitely played a part in their successes so far.
I have another daughter who is 10 and feel saddened that the fantastic setup at D of E will not be available in its entirety as it has been for my twins.
Thankyou do much to all the fantastic people at D of E you are a credit to the borough and in particular to the scheme itself

This council is killing this town....both my sons are doing their DofE, one in middle of Bronze the other about to start his Gold. DofE is brilliant for the young you are failing the youth of this town....WHAT will be next ??????

When both of my children were being interviewed for their current jobs, the directors interviewing them discussed in great detail their DofE awards and were very impressed.
My children are convinced the DofE helped them get their jobs.
It gives them the extra edge on those that don't have it as it proves they have pushed themselves above and behond their limits. It really tested their grit and determination.

I loved having the opportunity to do D of E with college in Huddersfield and feel it gave me valuable life skills and experience. That others will be stripped of this beneficial and rewarding programming seems incredibly unjust, and councillors should consider the long term loss to the community against the "savings" financially.

Kirklees are taking away with one hand and giving with the other.
DofE is unmeasurable experience for young people of all abilities, don't let Kirklees pull the funding.

I am doing my Bronze DofE this year and am wanting to silver and gold in the future
