After being open for a short three years, a public charter school in the state of Utah that specializes in helping teenage mothers graduate from high school is at risk of being shut down. The State Charter Board has recommended that Kairos Academy be shut down because of poor performance and failure to comply with recommendations the board has given. However, poor performance is being measured by standardized tests rather than academic improvement of students, and Kairos Academy has made every effort to improve both academic and social opportunities for students. Shutting down Kairos is not the answer. Please sign this petition to show support for a more individualized, compassionate education for students that really need it.
Kairos Academy has given me the opportunity to catch up on credits and even graduate early. Kairos Academy has a very unique learning enviornment that gives girls under special circumstances the ability to learn without distraction.
