Help save Hornsey Town Hall - campaign for community ownership

I have lived here for 30yrs and now overlook the town hall from my work. It's a unique green space in constant use by all ages. During the Festival especially and at Xmas, the whole community, Crouch Enders and visitors, come together in celebration. There's no place like it. We want to stay unique!

The Town Hall is so clearly meant for community use, it should be available for everyone. Of course develop some of the land for housing, and please please put in a multistorey car park which is desperately needed in Crouch End. Most important, use this site and building in a way that you would be proud to hand to future generations, NOT just sell to the highest bidder!!

There is enough private developers in Crouch End as it is. This landmark needs to be used by the community as it was originally intended.

At the beginning of WW2, my dad was an ARP warden in Hornsey. We lived in Holloway so not sure why he was posted to Hornsey. A fund raising concert was held early in 1940 with contributions from local people. I was a stage struck little girl who was singing and dancing at age 3. I have a very hazy memory of singing Oh Johnnie Oh! on the stage.Apparently I was very well received, mayor picked me up and said I was definitely a start of the future London's answer to Shirley Temple. Biggest accolade anybody could offer a child like me. I didn't become a star of the future, instead I became a casting diirector - next best thing. I now live in Hornsey. Went in to see the Town Hall in June when it was open to the public and was amazed at the size of the theatre and the stage where I had stood all those years ago. I know from friends in the industry that there is a great shortage of film & TV studios in the capital now. I know Town Hall is occasionally used for filming. I wrote to somebody on board, can't remember who and suggested they contacted various film location companies. Apart from the interior we have Priory & Alexandra Parks close by and of course the Palace, all of which could be film locations, plus a busy bustling High Street for exteriors....

This has great potential as a community asset. Do you want to be the councillors who sold the family silver on your watch? Developers will find other sites, there will never be another opportunity for vibrant community hub! Do the right thing.

Such a fine building - the council should give the community a chance to maintain and develop it, rather than selling it off to the highest bidder

Hornsey Town Hall is an historic, vital asset to the community and local businesses. I want to see it transferred immediately into community ownership, as outlined in past viable plans put forward by us. It would be truly outrageous if our objections and alternative solutions continue to be ignored and instead this proposal goes ahead. It is hard to imagine how the Council could justify agreeing to any private development that would end all community access to the site forever more. Any question that the green with its mature trees being included in the private developer's package is beyond belief unthinkable.

the location, historic function and need for community accessible facilities in the area means it would be damaging to consider wholesale privatisation of the space.

I, the undersigned, believe that Hornsey Town Hall is a vital and viable asset to the community and for local businesses. I like many others want to see it transferred into community ownership in order to safeguard community use and access in the long term, rather than being sold off to a private developer.
