@Ty Murphy...your question of whether our student's with the greatest need will be served by Community Roots Academy? A BIG NO! They have a 'waiting list' and our children are not on it. Looks like legal segregation to me!

My wife has been an educator for 30 years. She's taught children who need extra help to make it in school, she's been a program specialist, a Vice Principal and Principal. She has always worked at schools with a diverse population- many languages, cultures and mostly families with lower incomes. Families who NEED their community school for all that it offers. Jodi Murphy has often been a life-line for kids that had parents who worked multiple jobs just to pay their bills. Hidden Hills has been Jodi's home school for the last 9 years. Many times we've discussed CAPOUSD's open enrollment policy- which allows those who have the ability to drive their kids to schools outside of their community if they feel their personal needs are better met at another school. Of course what this means is the school who services kids from communities with low income housing- families very often characterized as the "have-nots" are abandoned by those "haves" who can move to schools of "their choice". This leads to under-enrollment at the "have-not" servicing schools while the "haves" schools student population stays high. So, when the "haves" decide that the school of choice is not enough- they now decide to start a "charter school". Schools that can choose their students, receive public school district funding and support and as we now find out- can take over and push-out those families who truly need a community based school. So, ask yourself- how many kids that should be attending Hidden Hills are now at other schools due to "open enrollment?? If they were included in the student population would Hidden Hills have low enrollment issues??? Lastly, if when deciding which school gets taken over by this charter school we ask- Will those who are in the greatest need of this school site be best served by the charter school taking over this site?? Pretty simple I believe.

We will save Hidden Hills Elementary School, it is the best elementary school in our neighborhood. My Nephews attended it, they love, we love it too
We will not allow to ruin our nice and safe city by bringing in a charter school, besides creating horrible traffic impact on the adjacent streets residents.
As two properties owner and a Civil Engineer, I will do my best to stop this inappropriate action.
It is a terrible idea, we will stop it, we will stop it....

I'm a mother of four kids. Not only them grow up and learn at Hidden Hills but me who since my first daughter start kindergarten and Mrs. Johnson encourage me to be a voluntary mother in the class I learn English and feel secure to be part of the education of my kids. Because of my four kids went there I knew most of the great teachers, I don't drive but always was there for every conference and events. My kids success academic were because that school now LMU university, college, senior year in high school and 8th grade are part of the story of Hidden Hills and I think the every kid deserve to have the opportunity that my own kids had so, please save our school save the future of our kids .

At a time when districts have enacted programs to prevent bullying, it is absolutely reprehensible that a group of parents, educators, and directors have chosen to force 375 elementary students along with 72 preschool students from their neighborhood school. The only reason the closure is being considered is because CRA wants our site. Such blatant disregard for the wishes and needs of the community that lives in the neighborhood is reprehensible especially from a group that calls itself "Community Roots".
