In March this year the Post Office announced their devastating plans to close its Haslemere branch because the lease on the building expires at the end of June.
On hearing the news, Jeremy Hunt met with the Post Office CEO to make the case for keeping a Post Office in Haslemere.

I have finalized a formal letter addressed to the regional Post Office management team requesting an extension of the current lease. My next step is organizing a direct briefing with local council members to ensure they prioritize this storefront during the upcoming development review.

We need to cross the one hundred signature threshold before I submit our formal briefing note to the Post Office regional office. Reaching this milestone this morning gives our position the necessary weight for that meeting.

For a town not to have a post office, particularly when the post offices in the surrounding villages have been shut down on the stated basis that people can use the one in the nearby town, is clearly ridiculous. Haslemere needs a post office not only for its residents, but for those in surrounding villages.
We've lost Lion Lane post office now proposing to close West Street will leave residents of Haslemere and Shottermill without a post office at all! Madness! What are the elderly or those that cannot drive supposed to do?
Live in Haslemere and bank with H.S.b.C which is also closing in June. Got a letter to say I could use the post office to draw cash. If they close as well it will be very inconvenient.
It would be tragic for this post office to close. Not only does it provide a much-needed local service, it goes the extra mile as the staff are incredibly friendly, conscientious and helpful.
Although I have signed this and believe passionately in saving the post office, it will take more than just signing a petition. The people of Haslemere have to act and work together to save our Post Office; it won't just happen.
I am within walking distance of Haslemere town centre, and going to the post office to post something or withdraw cash and cash a check is reason to come into the town centre. Otherwise I have to drive to the other end of the town.
We need a post office in our beautiful town. With no banks on the high street, many local residents rely on the West Street branch for doing banking/drawing cash, as well as sending post/parcels. It's a sad state of affairs when such a vital service, in a historic building, just ceases to operate. Please save the Haslemere Post Offices.

Closing the local post office would further undermine the well being of the local community. The UK Postal service should be opting to build up local communities, not whittling them down by their "bottom line" considerations.
