I'm a Baltimore native ~ a multi-disciplinary artist, living-history advocate, avid researcher, & a soon-to-be proud resident of Buena Vista Avenue. Only 3 months ago upon returning to Baltimore again from 2.5 years in Europe, I was shocked to discover just how little Baltimore legislators have learned in terms of the cruciality of preserving our historic architecture (& the stories attached) ~ just last week in my native Hamilton, an art deco building was razed to the ground to prepare for "ample parking." I'm very thankful for the work I see Historic Hampden Happenings doing towards increasing public awareness of issues around local history & its preservation & celebration, particularly within a community that has such a rich & complex historical lineage. I was quite interested to read in HHH that 1501 West 36th Street had been auctioned & bought. Immediately, thoughts went through my head wondering what would come next at the site & how it might be possible to make sure 1501 is appropriately & respectfully preserved, giving it the honour it deserves while continuing the intricately-woven narrative history of the Hampden / Woodberry area.
