Be creative and find an acceptable and working solution for NINO institute.

The current arrangements for the management of NINO as an independent research institute should not be changed and its collections divided. It would be a huge loss to the academic community if the proposed reorganization were to happen.

Although I sign this petition, it is with some reservation, as I would have liked to know what the stand of the present staff of the departments of Egyptology and Ancient Near East themselves with respect to the proposal is.

I support the independence of Nino and the future of Egyptology and Ancient Near Eastern Studies in the Netherlands.

In 2014 I spent two immensely productive weeks researching in the NINO. It would be a tragedy to see the collection dispersed and potentially diminished through integration into another collection.

We learn daily of depredations perpetrated on cultural heritage in the Middle East and elsewhere. The least we can do is fulfill our responsibility for our own intellectual heritage, as it is embodied in academic institutions, their faculty, and their material resources. Any decision regarding NINO's future should be guided by the principle of responsibility for our past and present civilization.

We must stop 'repairing' the underfunding of humanities with these 'solutions'. Resist!
