NINO is one of the most important institutions for the research of the ancient Near East, probably the most important in Europe. To close it especially in the present situation of on-going destruction of the Cultural Heritage in the Middle East is a crime. It must remain independent in order to continue its struggle for the cultural heritage and to support the studies of the ancient Near East in Leiden, Amsterdam, in the Netherlands and in Europe in general.
