I am an academic based in New York and I do research in France, Egypt, the UK and the Netherlands. The NINO library is one of the main Egyptological libraries in Europe and its collection one of the most accessible. I support a connected and independent NINO

I support the continuation of an integrated and independant NINO

The NINO should stay like it is, not incorporated in the University Library.

In support of expertise, also at the library

NINO was, is and needs urgently to be vital for researchers and students of Egyptology and the studies of the Ancient Near East. This importance can only be upheld if NINO stays an independent research institution. Its significance goes much beyond the sum of assets. That means, once these assets will be taken apart as proposed and cannot function as a specialised institute anymore, these additional positives will get lost resulting in losing one of the market leading research centres for Egyptology.

Please keep the NINO as it is!

By signing this petition, I support the continuation of an integrated and independent NINO, for the future generations of specialists and students of Egyptology and Near Eastern Studies. Over time, the NINO staff, professors, researchers, and other colleagues, have demonstrated to work with a very coherent and productive atmosphere and system, which included a clear association with the resources, the rest of members, and the structure of the Institute. Breaking apart this bond between the specialists and the structure of the NINO will not make any good at the prospective students, scholars, and projects, even if now this means a cut in expenses or a reorganization of the structure, which probably will not work well in the medium/long-term. As a member of the academic community, a visitor to NINO and its library in the past years, and a colleague of NINO members, I believe that the association and independence of the institute from other structures is necessary for the positive developments of the NINO and University programs regarding Egyptology and Near Eastern Studies. No doubt, I sign this petition to support that the NINO be an integrated and independent institution.

The plans to transform NINO would seriously affect the Netherlands’ position as a habitat of Near Eastern Studies and as a player in the scientific landscape of Europe.

Het grote voordeel van het Nino is niet alleen dat de verschillende collecties direct en makkelijk bereikbaar zijn maar ook het directe contact ter plekke met de medestudenten. ook de deskundige betrokkenheid van het aanwezige personeel kan niet voldoende benadrukt worden.

de waarde van ervaring wordt keer op keer onderschat.

This is obviously a cost-cutting exercise with little consideration being given to the fact that the NINO as an institution of status and world-renown that Leiden should be proud of and should keep at all costs.

Please save this unique library. Science is valuable beyond money, currency. It's valuable in the sense of legacy and science. Please acknowledge the value and necessity of NINO and Egyptology, Assyriology, and Ancient Near Eastern Studies in this context. Don't fall for the senseless politics of personal power. There must be another way. Thank you.

I ask you to maintain the continuation of an integrated and independent NINO for the respect of these antics disciplines and the persons who use to work for NINO. Thank you for your goodwill. Naki Leukart
