For more than 25 years the VI and HI services (now the Sensory Service) have delivered exemplary support and service for Cambridgeshire children from birth to young adulthood. These children have thus gained confidence and been enabled to achieve their full academic potential. This has been achieved through close collaborative team work and the sharing of experience and expertise between colleagues, as well as the best management of the many skills of the team members. The current proposals would likely fracture this excellent framework to the great detriment of these vulnerable children.
It is essential to normal development that children be given the opportunity where appropriate to enjoy mainstream education. Please consider this in your re-organisation. It isn't just about the money it is about lives

As a blind university student, I am horrified to hear that the county would consider funding cuts in an area, which for visually impaired and deaf children is integral not only to their acquisition of specialist skills like Braille but also often to their integration in school, their self confidence and their motivation to learn. Removing this service, frankly, is a means of further disabling those of us who are already at a disadvantage when it comes to equal learning opportunities and fitting into society.

cuts like these go way way beyond so called austerity - as well as being essentially counter productive. Children can do so much with good support to build lives that are enriching for themselves and so for all of us.
