Sure Start is the government's programme to support children and families by delivering the best start in life for every child and to help parents balance their work and family commitments. Calderdale's Sure Start centres offer childcare, family support and a range of health, training and employment services depending on local needs.
The council want to remove the funding for the nurseries at Sowerby Bridge (New Rd), Wellholme Park, Siddal, Field Lane, Elland and Todmorden, effectively closing them.
We demand that Calderdale Council urgently re-thinkthe proposal to stop funding Sure Start nurseries.Theservices offered by Sure Start are a vital part of our society and are there to support all children and parents. Sure Start is more than a building, it is about learning new skills, support with employment and training, support with parenting and being equipped to take on the challenges that being a parent brings.

Total madness closing these down. Who thought this was a good idea??
Cuts cuts cuts. Always the stuff that actually helps people. Leave the nurseries alone.
My kids went to the one in Sowerby Bridge and it was a massive help for us. The council is being so short sighted taking this away from families who actually need the support.
Ridiculous proposal. Where are parents meant to go now? They act like childcare is just a luxury but it helps people keep their jobs.
These centres are the heart of our community. Please rethink this!! We need these services.

Sure Start saved me when I was struggling as a new mum. The staff at Elland are amazing. Do not close them down.
