The school development proposal for Blake Lane Park has been officially withdrawn by the board. My legal team is currently reviewing the formal documentation to ensure the zoning protections remain permanent. We have achieved our objective so I will monitor site maintenance until the land is fully secured.

We need all the support we can get to save OUR neighborhood park! Meaning, if there are hearings, you need to show up. Signing the petition is only the first step!
Facts:
A school for 800 students plus staff will:
- increase Traffic even more
- add another traffic light to Blake Lane and Bushman Dr. (how else can we accommodate 800 students plus staff plus parents and buses hauling their children)
- destroy our green space
- take away refuge for so many wildlife species
- Property value can drop up to 10% !!!!!
- pollution will increase
- possible flooding in our area, if there is no park and trees which absorb the water, the water has to go somewhere...

To save our Blake Lane Park we need to put in the effort now! If you have ideas, or some time on your hand to communicate it to your neighbors, friends, please do so, we need a lot more signatures and a lot more coverage to be heard. The Providence Community will move forward with this project coming November!

Nothing against schools at all (I come from a family of teachers), but I love Blake Lane Park and am glad to have been a part of the invasive plant removal work there. I would love to see it stay open and continue to watch the landscape improve!
We need a new school, but Blake Lane Park is not an appropriate site for it. I am chiefly concerned about traffic; Blake Lane can barely accommodate the traffic it has right now, let alone the traffic that will be caused by adding a school to the road.
I brought my daughter and our dog here every single day after school to play soccer and baseball and run around. Getting rid of this space would leave so many oakton kids lacking in a space to do outdoor recreational activities. another school is not what we need!
This is a very difficult traffic area. I live off of Hibbard and already there are times when turning onto Blake Lane is virtually impossible. Mosby Woods ES is a mile away. would it not make more sense to expand the footprint there?
I live here and I and my fiancé have been contemplating raising children here. The park is something we thought we'd get to use with our children, but if this construction moves forward we'll lose one of the few parks in our immediate neighborhood.
Fairfax Co DESPERATELY needs more ACTUAL open space WITH NO paved parking lots and NO paved bike lanes and NO signs NO signs NO signs. Repeated in case you didnt see it the 1t 2 times!
The objective is to preserve this precious green space by preventing the construction of another elementary school – there are already two elementary schools within a mile of the park – and transferring ownership to the Park Authority. The high-density community surrounding the park lacks backyards and green space. Furthermore, the park has proven to be very beneficial during the pandemic, many more neighbors are using the park for healthy, outdoor activities such as kite flying and picnicking.

I have enjoyed Blake Lane park since the late 1970's - Please find another solution to the overcrowding issue (slow down new apartment, condo construction? hello?) instead of removing one of the few green, open spaces left in our area.
