Pacific, Missouri lies at the next logical junction point between the Meramec section of Great Rivers Greenway and the northwest extension of the Ozark Trail. The ultimate goal is to be able to travel by foot, bike or horse from the Gateway Arch to Ft. Smith, Arkansas, (700 miles). Right now, both trails are riverlocked: there needs to be a way for trails to bridge the Meramec River. Bend Bridge, (Also known as Withington Ford Bridge) which is still open to traffic, will be decommissioned in the next year. Efforts to obtain the bridge directly from Franklin County have been unsuccessful. We are now working with state and federal officials who acknowledge the historic nature of the bridge, and the City of Pacific which has not yet decided what position to take. We have recently raised $18,000 in leverage funds for The latter action would negatively impact federally endangered mussels, which live nowhere else in the world. Saving Bend Bridge would improve the economy, increase tourism, and provide more recreational opportunities for area residents away from busy roadways. The momentum behind saving this bridge is undeniable and it is finally forcing the local authorities to pay attention. Franklin County officials cannot hide from the thousands of people demanding they stop this reckless path of destruction.

I Grew up going over this bridge almost everyday even way back when my parents would let us walk over it when it was just boards. And still go over it after over 60 yrs when I come home!! Many happy memories! And this unique old bridge would make a great trail! Please save the Bend Bridge!!
The bridge is beautiful and bridges of its type are increasingly rare. It is MORE than adequate for the traffic load on bend road. Stop destroying history AND wasting our tax dollars.
What an asset to our community! Enough of destroying our historic landmarks! A travel destination for hikers, and nature lovers, revenue for our town!
The Ozark Trail is a wonderful resource for all Missourians to use. This bridge is crucial for the expansion of the trail. let's put the Ozark Trail on the map! Everyone has heard of the Pacific Crest, the Appalachian, the Continental Divide. Let's do what we can to make the OT have the same recognition!
Without this bridge, there will be a critical barrier for all trail users. So many cities are repurposing decommissed bridges for trail use. Please save Bend Bridge.
This is a neat old bridge could be used for a horse trail. It is historic construction

Franklin County and Pacific, be sane! Almost any other jurisdiction in the U.S. would fall all over themselves to try to save the potential growth and increased amenity this bridge represents. Get smart on this, spend the tiny amount of funds and preserve this prized asset.
