Save Bar Sepia & Protect Neighborhood Small Businesses

Bar Sepia is a community gathering spot. It was invaluable for making friends in the neighborhood, having a safe and comfortable place to go, as well as a place to do career networking. When my husband and I lived close to Bar Sepia, we brought friends from all the boroughs there to get a better understanding of why we don't want to leave Brooklyn and haven't in our combined 30+ years here. Having this community gathering spot close would be a blow not just to the neighborhood, but to the open, inclusive Brooklyn that anchors so many of us. Please don't let that end.

This is an establishment of grace and warmth—iadding greatly to the luster and ambiance of the neighborhood. It would be a tremendous loss for it not to be there.

This is a wonderful establishment that helps make this corner of Prospect Heights a great place to live. Bar Sepia has been good for our corner of Underhill and for the community, and they deserve to stay open.

Bar Sepia has become a home away from home for the locals of Prospect Heights, and we would hate to see it go!

Long time neighborhood businesses deserve to be protected, or at least given equal chances against the greedy speculators who seem to be able to muscle out everyone else.

This is a real bar, filled with real people, that is joyous and alive with conversation and people sharing their lives and stories. Do we really want to lose a place like this?

Bar Sepia truly makes Prospect Heights feel like my home. In a city of millions, the staff and fellow patrons here have become like extended family. The community Sepia has developed is unlike any other establishment I’ve patronized, and I would be heartbroken to lose such a special second home.

Echoing what everyone has said--Bar Sepia is an anchor of the Prospect Heights/Crown Heights community. Delissa and her crew have created a place that is welcoming to all-comers and feels as homey as you could dream of for a bar in a big city. I lived across from Sepia for 5 years and couldn't have wished for a better neighbor. I am deeply saddened by the possibility of its closure and hope that we can help stop it.

Bar Sepia is a great neighborhood community anchor. We need more of those, not less!

I have lived near Bar Sepia on and off for more than 10 years and can't imagine the neighborhood without it. Delissa and her staff -- it really does feel like a family -- have over the years done something that's so hard to do: create the conditions for a diverse local culture to evolve, grow, change, and find elusive moments of restoration and connection in a non-precious, non-exploitative, beautifully welcoming space. It's hard to express how sad it would be for Sepia to be gone, not just for our neighborhood but for what it would reflect about the city's trajectory as a whole. To the current owners: I hope you read all of these comments and I hope it becomes clear that selling the building to Delissa and allowing this cultural landmark to continue to exist is the right thing to do.

My son was born the same month as sepia. The bar’s atmosphere allowed them to grow up together. Keep community together!

One of the central threads of this community, Bar Sepia has done more to build friendships and connections across ethnic and socio economic lines than most local churches and politicians combined. It’s not just a “bar” it’s part of my home.

We need neighborhood businesses! We need locally-owned businesses to stay open! Please! We can do it if we work together!
