Save Bar Sepia & Protect Neighborhood Small Businesses

Bar Sepia is the rare establishment that somehow satisfies people across lines of race, age, class, and sexual orientation. The only way the customers are homogenous are that they are all from the neighborhood - just what we want. It is a warm and welcoming and unpretentious presence in the neighborhood.

Bar Sepia is an amazing neighborhood institution. I’ve been there countless times and would be heartbroken to walk by and not see it open.

Landlords and property owners with beloved and profitable small business-owners are killing the geese that enrich us all with golden eggs. Please let Bar Sepia live!!

For the past few years, Bar Sepia has hosted the post-talk drinks and discussion for the public philosophy event series that I organize at the library around the corner, and they have always been kind and welcoming. I know I'm not the only one who depends on the bar for something I feel is important, and who is dismayed to see the forms of life that make Brooklyn great priced out of neighborhood after neighborhood. The current building owner's (understandable) desire for profit should be balanced against the big weird mess of ways that the bar sustains the life of the neighborhood. Save Bar Sepia!

I moved down the street from Bar Sepia almost ten years ago, at time when Sepia was one of the few bars nearby. It's always been such a charming, welcoming place -- I've celebrated every birthday there for a t least the past five years. It's shameful that the businesses who've invested in the neighborhood are being pushed out. Sepia is a wonderful business that gives back to the community -- please save this bar!!

Countless birthdays and catch ups at this spot. Don’t let it die! We love this local joint!

I'm so sorry I could not be there today to support Delissa and her wonderful community bar!!! I cannot believe this is taking place. Delissa has supported me, my kids and sponsored events at their school. This bar has been here longer than I've been here and does not deserve to end on this terrible note. I support them in every way possible!

We need our political leaders to step forward and act to save not only a treasure and social anchor like Bar Sepia but to stabilize our neighborhoods which are being overwhelmed by out-of-control development that enriches real estate moguls but that harms the diversity and affordability of our communities, forcing people out. We need rent control for residents and commercial rent control for small businesses. How 'bout it?
