I have 3 children who have attended Akimel and a current kindergartener at Lagos. We specifically chose Lagos for the dual language program that would extend through middle school at Akimel, despite living out of boundaries. We strongly oppose the closure of Akimel.

This is truly unfortunate if the decision is made to close Akimel! This is an age group of transition for these students and they do not need the disruption or additional stress of a new school! Akimel & Estrella have a good variety of teachers and programs and the community is very happy with what the schools offer. The Akimel neighborhood is a great one that we all feel safe and comfortable in and I’m concerned what will be made of the Estrella elementary and Akimel if these schools close their doors. Our property values alone will decline, as one of the main reasons we all live around here is for the close proximity to these 3 wonderful schools. There’s definitely going to be more to consider if this goes through and the schools close.

I am a 6th grader that just started at Aki, and I love this school! They can’t close this school! I love all of my teachers, and if this school closes, they will all lose their jobs. DON’T CLOSE AKI!!!

I’m a 7th grader at Akimel and hope it stays because I can walk to school safely. I also get to be with my friend and I don’t like big changes. I love akimel and don’t want it to shut down so I hope it stays #SaveAkimel

Kids from all over come to school for the amazing learning and great teaching. Maricopa kids wake up at 5 am to be on the bus to travel to this school because it has so many opportunities such as AVID, culinary , CNM, Band. We went to state for our band. And our stem room is so wonderful. Go to akimel and look up at the ceilings and look at the creativity our students have. Your splitting up children from there friends. And here in the next 1-3 years that new huge subdivision is opening up, and you know there’s going to be children. You expect them all go to Altadena? It’s going to be overpopulated and testing scores are going to go down, for interruptions and what not. I think not keeping Akimel a-al is the biggest mistake the Kyrene district has ever made. You’re not benefiting anything from this people are going to be leaving Kyrene.

I am a student at Akimel and I do not want to go to another school because I have great teachers. And I’m in 7th grade and if I go to another school that will just be for a year then it’s off to high school, and to me and my family thats a lot of transitioning. Thank you for reading this, I would love to keep akimel.
