Save Akimel A-al middle school from closure

Signing for my 4 kids, my eldest is a freshman ad DV and my middle is at Aki now with their little brothers at Milenio. Save tradition! My kids deserve the right to their dreamed of schools.

This school has high enrollment and performance. Especially with new houses being built in the area, it seems like a poor candidate for closure.

Akimel A-al is more than just a school - it's an environment for our children to thrive with unique programs and opportunities that set a high standard compared to other middle schools. Do NOT take this pillar away from the Ahwatukee community. Now more than ever, we need to ensure our kids are provided MORE opportunities for enrichment, not LESS.

My niece currently attends, and both of my children will attend when they’re of-age. We need these schools in our neighborhood!!!

We should explore combining with Tempe Union high school district to reduce administrative overhead, among other options to continue reducing costs.

Hello. I am a parent of two kids at Akimel. One child in 8th grade has had an amazing experience. I am writing with concern for my other child. My son is in 6th grade. This is the class of kids who started out in kindergarten with covid disrupting the next 2 years of their lives and making their elementary years a difficult transition. My son struggled immensely for years. Now, in 6th grade at Akimel, he is thriving. His grades are the best they’ve ever been and he loves going to school. We live close to school which makes it possible for a working, single mom like myself to get him there are no he is safe. I know a few families that go to Centennial and have never heard a positive comment. The class sizes, the bullying, the fights, are just some concerns. He is afraid to go to school there. He would be one of the new kids, again. The location would require him to take the bus which I know is also an issue. Buses are running behind which would impact his getting to school on time. For these reasons, I beg you not to close Akimel next year. At least keep it open until the current students complete middle school. Two more years. This would mean the kids who went through Covid their first year, would be able to finish out middle school at their school. This is important for so many reasons but most importantly their mental health. Thank you.

We love Akimel and need to fight to keep it open.

This school has been more than just a building to us — it’s been a second home for my son. My child wakes up excited to go to school every day. That kind of environment is rare and precious. The teachers here know my son by name. They believe in him and have helped him grow in confidence. When my child struggled, this school didn’t give up on him — they stepped up.

This school provides a great educational opportunity for the students in the Maricopa boundaries who need a better middle school.

Keep the dual language program and keep Akimel middle school

The school, the environment and the staff that maintain energy as a whole can NOT be taken away from the ahwatukee community. This school gave me nothing but memories and joyfull experiences i cannot think of a single negative time during my enrollment here. Aki helped shape me into the man ive become today and i cannot see this school shut down

My mom has worked at Akimel for 13 years and the impact she has had on thousands of students over that time has truly transcended the minds of these young and now older people.

I had 3 kids go to this wonderful school and it would be a shame to have it close.
