Estrella and Akimal should not be the schools closed. Their location next to each other and how close they are to Desert Vista make it an illogical choice for closure.

Akimels proximity to 202 make it ideal for anyone commuting from within ahwatukee or outside ahwatukee. It is the closest high achieving middle school within walking distance to Desert Vista, and a major reason we purchased our home in ahwatukee near these schools.

It makes sense to keep Akimel open as well as Estrella.

I don’t believe the district has been imaginative enough in exploring all options to raise funds to help offset costs. I believe so much more can be done from a facilities management perspective including event space rentals, childcare programs, community services (adult programs, library services, specialty cohorts and even hybrid programs for home schooled kids). If we don’t need all the space then put it to work.

Best school in Ahwatukee, I live by this school for a reason. Also great teachers that we don't want to lose.

2 of my 4 children have attended Aki and I would love the last 2 to attend also. As a Kyrene kid my self it is very sad to see what is happening. I feel like the real loss is the future students that are going to miss out on a great community that has been standing for over 30years.

Akimel A-al Middle School has been more than just a school. As a previous student, attending all three academic years, it not only helped me grow academically, but helped me grow in the heart for others. The programs here are a one in a kind, from an amazing agriculture program, to an outstanding STEM program, and a school favorite Campus News Magazine. Just because this is one of the oldest Kyrene middle schools, doesn’t mean it’s outdated. The teachers here are like no other and they teach phenomenally. They support all the students best interests and spend their time and dedication to each and every student no matter the challenges. In my experiences, whenever I needed help I knew I could count on my teachers to be there for me and guide along the way. In conclusion, Akimel A-al Middle School has made a big impact in the person I want to become in the near future and it will always have a special place in not just my heart but others.

Akimel A-al is a great place to learn and be. We have unique program offerings, clubs, and teachers who love working together and with our kids. We’ve created an inviting, loving space for everyone.
